Civil Engineer designs and supervises construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, or roads. Reviews designs, tests and assesses materials, and performs necessary data collection and calculations in areas such as traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater analysis, and structure design. Being a Civil Engineer responsibilities also include estimating costs, estimating personnel and material needs, preparing proposals, and establishing completion dates. May also assist in inspecting aging infrastructure or overseeing improvement projects. Additionally, Civil Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. May require a Professional Engineer License (PE). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Civil Engineer work is closely managed. The goal of the Civil Commitment Liaison is to reduce the number of unnecessary involuntary commitment affidavits by collaborating with staff in the Chancery Clerk's officer and assessing client need and affiant report. Work to reduce unnecessary admissions to the Mississippi State Hospital and other DMH facilities by performing pre-evaluation screenings, monitoring commitment evaluations and hearings, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the most appropriate dispensation of cases.
