    Facilities and Services consists of the Project Development and Engineering group that manages both Capital Construction and small projects across the NMSU System; Facilities Operations, which is organized in traditional shops and is responsible for the physical operation and maintenance of NMSU Las Cruces I&G buildings.

    Classification Summary:
    Directs architectural planning for the University's campus physical environments. Directs the transfer of all institutional facility and infrastructure plans into project mode; ensures that an integrated, long-term approach to architectural design excellence and institutional identity is maintained at all campus locations. Works with units across the NMSU system to administer an integrated Facilities Planning process that ensures that Capital Outlay process and annual BRR allocations function cohesively to meet the institution's mission.

    Classification Standard Duties:
    Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff.Elicits input from the President, the Provost, and the Community College Presidents to the annual request for all NMSU Institutions, prior to submission to the Board of Regents for approval. Administers the comprehensive and supporting Campus Master Plan; Represents the University on local planning committees.Administers a Facilities Planning process to insure that Capital Outlay process and annual BRR allocations function meet the mission of the institution. Works closely with Space Management, Housing and Auxiliaries Services planners, Parking and Transportation, the Physical Plant Conditions Audits, the Provost's Office, the Office of Real Estate, Athletics, the Ag Science Centers, and the Community Colleges to accomplish this goal. Chairs the Campus Planning Committee, administers the selection of Architects and Engineers; provides technical support to Disabilities Advisory Committee; Acts as the University's liaison with New Mexico Art in coordinating Art in Public Places for major capital outlay projects. Oversees the preparation of all submittals to HED and assists in the presentation to HED in the Capital Outlay Hearing. Presents major capital outlay projects to the Campus Planning Committee, the University Executive Council, the HED Capital Projects Committee, and the State Board of Finance for approval.Collaborates with the Director of Sustainability to identify sustainability goals and actions for campus. Plays an essential role in planning for the stewardship of historic resources and provides guidance on major changes. Assists administration in planning for the future development of water resources as an economic engine for the university. Uses space management software to make data-driven decisions regarding allocation of space. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    KNOWLEDGE:University and department policies and procedures; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.; SKILLS:Short- and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; public contact and relations; oral and written communication to include presentation, AutoCAD, and space management software.; ABILITIES:Direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities
    This position will report directly to the Associate Vice President of NMSU Facilities & Services.

    • Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff
    • Elicits input from the President, the Provost, and the Community College Presidents for the annual capital outlay request for all NMSU Institutions, prior to submission to the NMSU Board of Regents for approval

    • Provide support to a Facilities Planning process to ensure that Capital Outlay process and annual Building Renewal and Replacement (BRR) allocations function to meet the mission of NMSU
    • Work closely with Space Management, Housing and Auxiliaries Services planners, Parking and Transportation, the Provost's Office, the Office of Real Estate, Athletics, the Ag Science Centers, Physical Plant Conditions Auditors, and the Community Colleges to accomplish NMSU and F&S Mission
    • Chairs the Campus Planning Committee, administers the selection of Architects and Engineers; provides technical support to Disabilities Advisory Committee
    • Oversees the preparation of all submittals to NM Higher Education Department (NMHED) and assists in the presentation to NMHED in the Capital Outlay Hearing
    • Presents major capital outlay projects to the Campus Planning Committee, the University Executive Council, the NMHED Capital Projects Committee, and the NM State Board of Finance (SBoF) for approval
    • Acts as the University's liaison with New Mexico Art in coordinating Art in Public Places for capital outlay projects
    • Collaborates with the Director of Sustainability to identify sustainability goals and actions for campus
    • Represent the University on local planning committees
