The Hesburgh Libraries is looking for an exceptional communicator with strong writing and editing skills to help us highlight our services and reach audiences at Notre Dame, nationally, and globally, at all integration points throughout the teaching and research lifecycle.
Working in partnership with the director of communications and marketing, this role helps to carry out complex communications strategies and tactics across multiple channels. Areas of content focus include strategic initiatives, priority projects, and core services to elevate the Libraries' brand and many sub-brands, including research, expertise, resources, programs, services, software platforms, specialty spaces, workshops, and special events.
The Hesburgh Libraries has more in-person and online users than anywhere on campus. We work with a broad range of stakeholders across every academic discipline in the schools, colleges, centers, and institutes. Additionally, the Hesburgh Libraries collaborates with administrative units such as University Development, Student Affairs, Alumni Association, and University Communications. Target audiences include students (current and prospective, undergraduate and graduate), faculty (current and prospective), staff, the global scholarly community, donors (current and prospective), campus leadership, alumni, faculty and staff at institutional peers, professional organizations, the media, and the general public.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plans and implements communications and content strategies for strategic initiatives, special projects, recruiting efforts, and core offerings across traditional and new media channels to engage local, national, and global stakeholders.
- Creates strategic content, including writing and/or editing for a wide range of written, online/digital, and other print/visual communications materials across multiple channels for diverse audiences.
Manages strategic partnerships and engages with many stakeholders, including the University community; local, national, and international media and professional organizations; global communities of scholars; internal colleagues and others to ensure maximum distribution, amplication, and impact.
Develops and implements integrated digital strategies. Manages select website areas within their portfolio and creates/manages publishing priorities in alignment with Hesburgh Libraries and University strategic frameworks.
Researches, recommends, and implements industry trends and best practices. Evaluates key metrics to ensure successful results and maximum impact.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Integrated Marketing Communications, or related degree.
- Five years of relevant experience in related fields.
- Has excellent, versatile writing and editing skills and knowledge of both AP and Chicago styles.
- Has advanced ability to translate strategy and key messages into multiple formats across integrated channels for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrates breadth and depth of experience in traditional and new media channels, with an understanding of the best practices, advantages, and limitations.
- Performs well under pressure. Has excellent time and project management skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Has a proven ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse audiences, populations, and languages that reflect the Universitys commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Enjoys and excels in collaborative environments. Has experience with cross-functional teams and working with people at all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrates strong experience with multiple computer software programs and content creation/production tools such as MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, and e-communications platforms.
