Community Health Director is responsible for developing plans for community-based health programs aimed at the prevention of disease and promotion of health. Recommends community health initiatives, policy implications and best practices after reviewing health literature and statistics. Being a Community Health Director identifies community health program related grant funding and develops grant proposals. Manages specific community health programs from planning and design through implementation and evaluation. Additionally, Community Health Director requires a master's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a top management. The Community Health Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am- 5:00 pmServing in a Department Director capacity at the will and pleasure of the County Administrator, this classification will determine and formulate policies and provide the overall direction of federal, state, and local government activities and programs (i.e., Affordable Housing and associated programs, Animal Welfare, Neighborhood Improvement and Economic Development, etc.) assigned in carrying out the department's mission: To preserve and improve the physical, social and economic health of Manatee County neighborhoods, support neighborhood self-reliance, and enhance the quality of life for residents through community-based problem solving, neighborhood-oriented services and public/private cooperation.

Essential Functions

In coordination with Division Managers, plans, promotes, organizes and coordinates departmental services and programs and maintains cooperative working relationships among public and agency participants.
Directs activities and programs of the department to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations rules, policies and procedures, and that goals, objectives and standards are met in a timely and effective manner.
In coordination with staff, develops and administers work programs, practices, procedures and policies for improving the effectiveness of Neighborhood Services programs and projects and enhancing economic development throughout the County.
Develops and manages the annual budgets for the department and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses to ensure efficient and appropriate use of funding.
Negotiates or participates in negotiation of contracts and agreements related to Neighborhood Services projects; solicits and manages grants associated with neighborhood services.
Communicates clearly, effectively and tactfully (orally and in writing); makes presentations to the Board of County Commissioners, various citizen groups and the general public, as necessary; maintains liaison with Federal, State and local governmental agencies, consultants and contractors.
Directs assigned staff, which includes work allocation, training and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions including hiring/firing, disciplinary, etc.; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Supervises in house subordinate staff and oversight of outside consultant contracts.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Bachelor's degree in human services, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years high level budgetary and/or detailed financial management experience.
Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.
Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
Master's degree in related field desired, and at least five (5) years related experience in a federal, state, or local government setting.Clear All
