Job Summary: At the direction and control of the CNO, the RN Clinical Educator will be responsible for developing, conducting, and evaluating In-service programs, orientation, and continuing education for nurses, students, and other staff in clinical area. Develops educational policies and procedures. Serves as a resource person to staff and management. Participates in CQI performance improvement activities; serves on special committees as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops and directs orientation programs, In-services, and continuing education for the nursing and ancillary clinical departments.

Conducts classes and/or provides individual instruction.

Develops objectives for each In-service and evaluates presentation and teaching material through staff input and suggestions.

Interacts professionally with the nursing staff and nurse managers to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs.

Ability to develop instructional materials; set-up and demonstrate patient care equipment.

Interacts professionally with vendor/manufacturer sales representatives; coordinates equipment demonstrations.

Assigns In-service topics to staff members to develop and teach.

Supervises nurse preceptor program; may supervise all students on the unit.

Assists with the coordination of performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

Performs continuous evaluations of training needs; determines effectiveness of educational programs.

Responsible for developing a budget for educational programs; ability to write grant proposals if necessary.

Assists with organization-wide education projects.

Documents staff attendance at In-services; ensures educational requirements, organization requirements and standards are met on an annual basis by all staff members as directed.

Evaluates and documents staff performance of clinical skills.

Orients new staff members; evaluates skill competencies during the 90-day probationary period; makes recommendations for firing, hiring and promotion.

Plans and coordinates conferences and seminars; uses community resources.

Assists nurse managers with the planning and implementation of staff development programs.

Videotapes seminars, classes, and demonstrations for future use.

Ability to serve as a resource person, consultant to nursing and medical staff, students, and ancillary staff members.

May perform clinical duties if needed.

Able to develop and instruct educational programs for all patients. This includes pediatric, geriatric, and the general population.

Studies current trends, new technology/development, teaching methodologies through professional journals, seminars/conferences, professional societies, etc.

Performs administrative duties as needed; management reports; maintains In-service, orientation records; plans a monthly calendar for education activities; order supplies and equipment, participates in Nursing Directors call schedule, etc.
Education: Arkansas or Multistate Nurse License
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Certification as an instructor in BLS and/or ACLS
Experience: 2 years Clinical Educator preferred
