  • Job Summary:
    The Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM) is dedicated to protecting Maine’s natural resources, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting Maine’s communities. We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a temporary Outreach Organizer. This position plays a critical role in supporting and implementing advocacy campaigns and initiatives on behalf of NRCM.
    The Outreach Organizer will help build public support for advocacy campaigns by mobilizing and engaging supporters, stakeholders, and community members to advocate for our campaigns. This position will primarily be working with the Healthy Waters and Forests & Wildlife programs but will have the opportunity to assist in other areas as well. This position requires several days working from the Augusta office. Travel and some evening and weekend hours for events are required. This is a six-month position with the possibility of extension.

    Supervisor: Forests & Wildlife Director
    Status: Temporary, Full-time Employment, non-exempt
    Compensation: $19.00-22.50 per hour
    Job Responsibilities:
    • Collaborate with the advocacy team to develop strategic plans and objectives for advocacy campaigns, including setting clear goals, identifying target audiences, and outlining actionable steps to achieve the desired outcome
    • Organize and coordinate grassroots efforts to mobilize supporters, volunteers, and community members. Conduct outreach to potential advocates and engage with existing supporters to build a strong network
    • Conduct community outreach activities to raise awareness about campaigns and the organization’s mission through organizing events, attending community meetings, and collaborating with local organizations and stakeholders
    • Develop and conduct training sessions to empower advocates with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively communicate the campaign’s message
    • Foster relationships with partner organizations, community groups, and stakeholders to amplify campaign impact and build a broad coalition of support
    • Conduct independent research and writing to create factsheets and other informational material alongside the Communications Department
    • Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards in advocacy work, including rules related to lobbying, fundraising, and data privacy

    Qualifications:
    • Prior experience organizing for public interest issue campaigns and/or electoral campaigns with strong outreach, organizing, and public engagement skills
    • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines
    • Strong written and interpersonal communications skills for various audiences and platforms, with the ability to learn policy issues quickly and communicate complex issues in simple and persuasive terms
    • Ability to work with diverse groups, including other nonprofits, business leaders, elected officials, community groups, and the public
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Prior experience with online platforms and data management such as the Voter Activation Network (VAN) a plus
    • Strong interest in NRCM’s mission to protect Maine’s environment

    Common NRCM Job Responsibilities:

    Physical Requirements of the Job:
    The job requires working at a computer station for substantial lengths of time; performing office duties such as phoning, filing, and copying, and the ability to lift objects up to 10 pounds.
