    About UFW Foundation:
    For nearly 18 years, the UFW Foundation has mobilized farm workers and their organizations across the country to advocate for more equitable policies, such as immigration reform, pesticide protections, heat standards, hazard pay and other worker protections. We engage constituents in systemic change to break the cycle of poverty while also providing critical services. In fact, the UFW Foundation is the largest federally accredited immigration legal service provider in the state of California. The organization has staff in California, Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, and New York.


    SUMMARY
    : The Risk & Compliance Coordinator plans, directs, and or coordinates activities for the UFW Foundation to ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards. The Risk & Compliance Coordinator ensures UFW Foundation policies are accurate, current, and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Risk & Compliance Coordinator (1) maintains documentation of compliance activities; (2) identifies and addresses compliance issues that require follow-up or investigation; and (3) manages an organization’s overall insurance programs, as well as entity registrations. The Risk & Compliance Coordinator provides these services to both the UFW Foundation (a 501(c)3), as well as its sister organization the Civic Empowerment Coalition (a 501(c)4). The Risk & Compliance Coordinator reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO)


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

    • Analyzes insurance needs by identifying risk exposures and analyzing and classifying risks to provide optimum coverage, costs and claim settlements.
    • Assists UFW Foundation staff in obtaining certificates of insurance, as needed for special events, grant applications, etc.
    • Communicates current regulatory issues to management and recommends course of action after consultation with COO.
    • Conducts periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure that compliance procedures are followed.
    • Conducts regular policy reviews and research and compiles loss trends.
    • Coordinates internal investigation of compliance issues as per the direction of the COO.
    • Coordinates policy renewals and applications as per the direction of the COO.
    • Drafts new and updates existing internal risk and compliance policies so that they match industry standards.
    • Ensures registration of UFW Foundation and Civic Empowerment Coalition with appropriate state agencies.
    • Establishes relationships with important external bodies and stays up-to-date on the changes in industry requirements and all relevant regulations.
    • Files appropriate compliance reports with regulatory agencies.
    • Identifies compliance issues that require follow-up or investigation.
    • Maintains documentation of compliance activities, such as complaints received or investigation outcomes.
    • Organizes workshops and training sessions to educate and update employees on the organization’s compliance policies, regulations, and processes.
    • Performs risk assessments and establishes our organization’s tolerance for risk.
    • Prepares risk management reports for the Executive Team based on internal reviews and advises the Executive Team on risk mitigation measures and implementation of adequate compliance programs.
    • Reports violations of compliance or regulatory standards to the COO and duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate or required as directed by the COO.
    • Working closely with the COO, the Risk & Compliance Coordinator
      • Advises internal management (Executive Team) or partners on the implementation or operation of compliance programs.
      • Develops and implements compliance-related policies and procedures throughout the UFW Foundation; disseminates written policies and procedures related to compliance activities; and ensures organizational policies are accurate, current and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Works closely with the People Relations Director and COO regarding staff performance management and workers’ compensation insurance renewals.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • May supervise interns and or volunteers.

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • Advanced degree in human resources, business administration or related field, masters, or juris doctor and/or certification as a Risk and Compliance professional (Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional, Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager, or Certified Information Systems Security Professional, etc.).
    • Prior management or supervisory role.


    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree in risk management, human resources, business administration or related field and three (3) to five (5) years or more in risk management, compliance, or related field experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current California driver’s license and insurance.

    The annual salary pay range for this position is $66,560.00 to $68,000.00, and benefits include:
