Computer Numeric Control Machine Programmer programs and sets up CNC milling, lathe, or other machinery according to blueprint specifications. Reads and interprets technical blueprints and design models and inputs the product design into the computer modeling software. Being a Computer Numeric Control Machine Programmer adjusts machine settings to the desired product specifications, and troubleshoots and maintains the machine. Utilizes G or M code and CAM software (MasterCAM,CAMWorks or others). Additionally, Computer Numeric Control Machine Programmer tests accuracy of settings and programs. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Computer Numeric Control Machine Programmer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. JOB POSITION: Programmer/ Set Up Operator
Setup jobs on CNC machinery and assist CNC Technicians on jobs when transitioning. Develop Master CAM/Solid Works drawings/models of machined parts and assemblies.
Responsible for running production of new parts on facility machinery. Set-up, install and maintain job tooling. Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces according to specifications, tooling instructions, and standard charts, applying knowledge of machining methods: Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operations. Selects, positions, and secures tool in tool holder (chuck, collets, or tool post). Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches. Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and turns hand wheel to feed tool to work piece or vice versa, and engages feed. Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and work piece. Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers. Operates bench grinder to deburr work as needed or sharpen tools.
