Computer Operations Supervisor supervises computer operations, acting as a team resource for guidance and support on complex or unusual issues. Implements policies and procedures to perform routine tasks to maintain computer equipment and its peripherals. Being a Computer Operations Supervisor continuously monitors the efficacy of computer operations, backup processes, system monitors, and server availability to ensure operation goals are met. Analyzes and records error messages to diagnose issues and works with impacted groups to provide a timely solution. Additionally, Computer Operations Supervisor recommends potential equipment upgrades to improve the capabilities of computer operations. Ensures computer operations activities meet pre-established production targets and maintain operating budgets. May require an associate degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager. The Computer Operations Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Computer Operations Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Incumbent must successfully complete a background investigation (fingerprinting and work history/education check) in addition to a job-related physical exam, including a drug test.Shift: This position is required to work the night shift assignment. The County pays an hourly differential** for those employees working night shifts.Physical Requirements: Duties involve lifting up to fifty (50) pounds; bending, stooping, and kneeling.Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
**Employees who work the majority of shift, including at least four (4) hours with or without intervening meal time, between 12:00 a.m. (midnight) and 8:00 a.m. of the following day, shall receive one dollar and seventy cents ($1.70) per hour over and above their base hourly rate. Effective August 10, 2024, employees who work the majority of shift, including at least four (4) hours with or without intervening meal time, between 12:00 a.m. (midnight) and 8:00 a.m. of the following day, shall receive one dollar and eighty-five cents ($1.85) per hour over and above their base hourly rate. Refer to the MOU for more information.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience as a technology lead OR senior computer operator in a cross-platform production environment.
Experience must include two (2) years using z/OS or Windows/Linux Operating System, JCL, TSO, IMS/DB2, TCP/IP.-AND-
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Fifteen semester (23 quarter) units of completed college level coursework in computer operations, programming, data processing or a closely related field. A list of related coursework must be submitted with the application.Substitutions:- An additional one (1) year of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.
- A Bachelor's Degree in a related field may substitute for up to one (1) of the required years of experience.
