Computer Instruction Technician
  • Templeton Unified School District

  • Under general supervision of certificated staff, assists students of varying levels of computer familiarity with keyboarding skills, word processing and general computer usage.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Assists teachers with the presentation of learning materials and instructional activities; instructs classes in the use of computers and peripherals.
    • Tutors individuals and small groups of students; monitors and assists students through drill, study, and research activities after lessons and instructions have been provided by the teacher.
    • Issues and retrieves software to and from students.
    • Inspects computer equipment regularly; performs minor repairs on equipment if possible; sends equipment out for major repairs.
    • Schedules computer time for classes with instructors.
    • Contacts instructors about students' progress.
    • Reads and researches catalogs for new software.
    • Informs instructors about software within their subject area.
    • Maintains class control in the absence of the teacher.
    • Prepares bulletin board materials and decorates classroom; assists in maintaining a neat, orderly and attractive learning environment.
    • Operates audiovisual equipment, computer, copying machines and other related equipment that serve as aids in or to the instructional program.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge of:

    • Principles and procedures of computer systems operations.
    • General purposes and goals of public education.
    • General methods of education and teaching.
    • Techniques to control and motivate students.
    • Student behavior and characteristics.
    • Basic arithmetic. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
    • Simple record keeping related to the maintenance of computer systems.

    Ability to:

    • Operate a variety of computer systems.
    • Learn and utilize standard teaching aids and computer-assisted instruction.
    • Learn and utilize simple methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings. Perform simple clerical work and light typing.
    • Read, write and understand the English language. Make simple arithmetical calculations.
    • Demonstrate patience, warmth and liking for students.
    • Maintain records related to computer maintenance.
    • Assume responsibility for assisting in the supervision of students.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Communicate in writing for the purposes of composing the required reports and other correspondence.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Level 1:

    • Must be computer literate; have familiarity with computer-assisted instruction.
    • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in computer systems operation or a related field.

    Level II:

    • Must be computer literate; have thorough familiarity with computer-assisted instruction.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with substantial training in computer systems operation.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: of this position are, but not limited to, the following:

    Ability to:

    • See for purposes of observing students and reading instructional materials and other printed matter.
    • Understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone.
    • Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone. Operate audiovisual equipment, computer, copy machine and other office and classroom equipment with dexterity.
    • Occasionally lift/carry supplies and printed materials weighing up 75 pounds.

    NOTE:

    The District requires, at district expense, a post-offer, pre-placement physical. Candidates offered positions who cannot meet the above physical requirements will be offered reasonable accommodations as appropriate in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

    Pay: $25.28 - $32.14 per hour
