Position Description: Lead, train and develop Geotechnical Design Specialists and Senior Design Specialists. Provide leadership, geotechnical engineering analysis, input to perform technical reviews, mitigate potential design and construction risk, identify and solve construction challenges, and generate optimization opportunities for pursuit and execution of design-build and design-bid-build systems projects. Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities: Manage Geotechnical and Structural Design Specialists and Senior Design Specialists regarding advanced technical reviews of complex projects to assess constructability, examine design details, perform quantity takeoffs, and recommend construction sequencing and logistics, including: o Project specific designs, program intent, contractual obligations, division of responsibilities, and deliverables; o Project documentation, drawings, basis of design documents, specifications, reports, and shop drawings; o Track implementation into overall design; o Document review for compliance with local/national code requirements; o Potential solutions to the design/construction team for design optimization, challenges, and constructability improvements; and o Guidance for project non-conformances and operations issues. Develop and maintain constructive and effective relationships with internal/external project team members, Business Unit and Corporate leaders, subcontractors, and clients to facilitate understanding and influence design and project development. Work in partnership with linked design disciplines to improve coordination of design concepts (e.g. geotechnical, structural, code-compliance, building envelope and façade, MEFP, vertical transportation, acoustics, and fire). Develop Cost Proposals & track for requested deliverables, develop appropriate hours for tasks. Oversee organization development, staffing requirements, overall group growth related to Geotechnical/Structural focus area. Review weekly summary of activities and workload to identify bandwidth of staff hour availability related to Geotechnical and Structural analysis. Support recruitment of top-level technical talent into Turner Engineering Group (TEG), review requirements for employment, and participate in candidate reviews. Develop high-performing team for Geotechnical and Structural focus areas through supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring. Ensure timely and regular feedback and completion of employee performance appraisals for all staff. Participate in Business Development; attend meetings with design teams, developers, and Business Units to identify our abilities for potential opportunities. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science from accredited and credentialed degree program in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical or Structural Concentration) and 18 years of industry experience as practicing Geotechnical or Structural Engineer or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience Professional Engineer (Structural) license, required Recognized as subject matter expert in Geotechnical or Structural Design and Construction sector Experience leading moderately sized teams of Geotechnical and/or Structural Engineers, developing design/review scopes and budgets, and managing projects, required Design experience on diverse array of projects (vertical and horizontal structures) through all phases of design and construction, required Think and write in highly structured manner while also having the required creativity to develop specialized solutions and anticipating potential challenges and opportunities, required Structural and geotechnical systems, products, costs, and procurement processes knowledge and experience Lead peer reviews and/or due diligence studies experience U.S. building design codes and material specific standards expertise Effective and clear verbal and written communication skills Enjoy working in professional interdisciplinary team environment Design software for structural and/or geotechnical analysis, general collaboration software (e.g. Bluebeam Studio) and operation of 3D and BIM software (e.g. Navisworks, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp) Demonstrate commitment to continue to develop in area of expertise, and awareness of industry innovations for self and staff U.S. travel Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
