Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. *Minimum of Two years Military Service.

*Minimum of Two years work experience after achieving a high school diploma.- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- No felony convictions.
- Applicants must successfully complete a written exam, oral examination, extensive police background investigation, medical exam which includes a cardiovascular fitness test, psychological evaluation and drug screen.
- Visual acuity correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contact lenses.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- TIME I and TIME II certification for classification or Jail Diversion assignment.
- Must be certified as a Correctional Officer by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Training and Standards Board.
- Attend 24 hours of in-service training to maintain certification.
- Ability to lift push/pull objects weighing up to 165 pounds infrequently.
- Ability to maintain control of aggressive inmates and use all use of force options.
- Ability to walk a distance of an equivalent of one mile or more on a daily basis.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for lengthy periods of time.
- Ability to utilize sense of smell for detecting smoke or odorous chemicals.
- Ability to hear, in order to respond to inmate needs.
- Ability to use computer and computer keyboard.
- Ability to use Taser as trained.
- Inside work in a secure jail facility with limited exposure to outside elements.
- Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, contagious diseases, noxious fumes, and combative inmates.
