Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. We now seek Correctional Officers for our institutions: Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, Wyoming, Women's Center in Lusk, Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton, Wyoming Honor Conservation and Boot Camp in Newcastle, Wyoming medium Correctional Institution in Torrington. This position is essential for maintaining the institution's safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position receiving the 20-year retirement package. This is an entry-level position, and career/growth opportunities are available.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level. To maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following: Enforcement of rules and regulations. Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts. Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pro-social behavior. Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items. Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations. Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates. Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas monitoring inmate movements. Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions. Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required. Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations. Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the appropriate outprocessing of released inmates. Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level. KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.

    Qualifications PREFERENCES**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS **Must be at least 18 years of age, **Must be a U.S. Citizen, **Must have a valid driver's license **Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School or GED Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements

    PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre-employment testing prior to the appointment. Candidates must have the ability to work overtime as required and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.
