Job Summary
The Cost Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate cost accounting processes, monitoring expenses, analyzing financial data, and providing valuable insights to support informed business decisions. The Cost Accountant will collaborate with various departments to identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization. This position reports to the Accounting Director.
Objectives of this role
- Develop and maintain accurate cost accounting system, documentation, and records.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of product costs, production expenses, and operational overhead.
- Utilize ERP systems to effectively manage and analyze data.
- Support operations teams and core business partners with thoughtful financial insights and proactively communicate inconsistencies in trends and profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Calculate and monitor project costs, manufacturing overhead, and production variances.
- Assist with internal audit and times studies to validate routing activities and BOM accuracy.
- Perform standard cost rolls and provides analysis of inventory impact.
- Conduct variance analysis such as PPV, cost revaluation, invoice to PO price variances and production order variances.
- Provide explanations and recommend corrective actions to resolve cost discrepancies.
- Analyze inventory levels and valuation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Participate in annual physical inventories and periodic cycle counts.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and operational efficiency within the business process.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement cost control measures and process enhancements.
- Performs month-end closing activities including preparation of account reconciliation and posting of related journal entries.
- Review gross margin by product line and ensure prices and profitability meet expectations.
- Prepare and provide information to management to aid in decision-making on pricing decisions, resource allocation, make-or-buy decisions, expansion or contraction of business activities, and more.
- Participate in annual budget and forecasting process.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Perform other duties that are needed to support the accounting department/agency.
Qualifications
Applicant Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
- 3 years’ experience in accounting
- Proven work experience as a Cost Accountant or in a similar role.
- Solid understanding of cost accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
