Reports To: Building Administrator
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with K-12 counseling endorsement preferred
- School Guidance Counselor License preferred.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, advanced problem-solving approaches and a strong desire to promote student success.
- Successful experience working with/teaching secondary students preferred.
- Experience with Naviance preferred.
Description: The UALC Counselor provides a comprehensive counseling program for high school students and provides services to meet the needs of all students. Responsibilities include consultation with teachers, staff and parents to provide support in the areas including but not limited to assessment, EDPs, progress monitoring and career counseling.
- Work with students to create and maintain Educational Development Plan.
- Assign students appropriate courses as they complete online classes.
- Monitor student attendance and work with families as needed.
- Review student progress and meet with students and parents as needed.
- Create and run student groups that would benefit students in both academic and social endeavors.
- Work with any homebound students to ensure service and progress is being made.
- Assist with any state and building-wide assessments as needed.
- Individual counseling as needed or as indicated in IEP or 504 plans.
- Participate in all building professional development.
- Participate in all district professional development as directed.
- Potentially assist with discipline issues when administrator is out of the building.
- Ensure that all transcripts are up to date.
- Oversee graduation process with Utica Alternative Learning Center (UALC) Administrator.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
