    Senior Vice President - Risk

    SUMMARY:

    With the goal of enhancing lives, fulfilling dreams and building communities this position provides the overall leadership and direction for the Compliance, BSA / Fraud and Risk Management employees within the credit unions Risk Management department. This position supports senior leadership by evaluating risks to the credit unions strategic objectives. Position supports the outsourced internal audit function. Provide risk transparency to key stakeholders including the Board, Audit Committee, management, and regulators.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Oversee consistent and effective delivery of organization wide risk management functions throughout credit union.
    • Oversee all compliance and BSA activities. Create a compliance framework to safeguard the integrity of Numerica.
    • Cultivate the departments independent review and evaluation body to ensure issues/concerns within the organization are appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved.
    • Advise in resolution of more complex problems in compliance vulnerability and risk; guide correct action plans for resolution of problematic issues and execute strategy on avoiding similar situations in the future.
    • Support management and the Boards establishment of risk appetite and risk tolerance set forth in policies and guidelines.
    • Partner with and assist management in the development of products and processes that are consistent with approved risk appetite statements.
    • Oversee the design and execution of the risk identification, evaluation, control, documentation, and reporting process.
    • Ensure risk assessments and scenario analysis are conducted on a regular basis in order to identify and analyze risk exposures.
    • Report to management and Board when appropriate of risk metrics and risk exposures.
    • Research, monitor and analyze developing trends and changes in regulations, potential loss exposures, and emerging opportunities that impact credit union activities and ensure management awareness and readiness.
    • Keep staff apprised of policy, procedure, and program changes; conduct performance appraisals; leads staff meetings as needed.
    • Support the outsourced internal audit function and act as the administrative liaison with the Audit Committee.
    • Responsible for completing required CPD courses. Develops and ensures that the team completes assigned CPD courses.
    • Participate in discussions on credit union strategy and implementation of that strategy as part of the Business Leadership Team.
    • Perform other duties as assigned for Numerica.
    • Oversee and maintain the departments adherence to all BSA regulations, compliance standards and to internal policies (personally as well as the staff).

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Overall supervision of employees in the Risk Management area. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this business unit. Ensure coordination of Internal Audit efforts and communication with the Audit Committee Chair.

    Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

     

    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

    Ability to make decisions quickly in all kinds of situations. Ability to plan and implement projects necessary to help the credit union achieve its strategic goals.

    Problems encountered require a determined mastery of techniques, practices, and theories gained through wide seasoning and / or specialized study and development.

    Problems may deal with a variety of issues overlapping functional or organizational boundaries, requiring analytical interpretation. Problems may involve proactive thinking or require significant creativity, innovation, evaluation and / or constructive thinking. Problems are frequently solved without previous precedent to draw upon.

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelors degree in business related field plus ten or more years of experience in operations, lending and administrative functions in banking or audit of financial institutions required. Prior experience in manager function with staff supervisory experience necessary. Must have strong foundation in all areas of the organization and be well versed in regulatory and risk management issues.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret regulatory journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication. Professional written communication skills necessary to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to read, write, communicate, and negotiate effectively with all levels of management, the Board and Audit committee.

     

    INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

    Significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and / or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and / or sell ideas or services to others.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    Compliance, Risk Management or Audit certification is preferred. 

     

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    Independent judgment with strong analytical skills. A solid knowledge of government regulations and banking procedures. Strong technical skills and ability to utilize a variety of software and data sources to support job functions. Demonstrated management, supervisory, and organizational abilities; strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to develop innovate solutions and must be attentive to details. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
