    Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

    Southwest Virginia Community College seeks applicants for the position of the Dean of Student Success and Title IX Coordinator. The Dean of Student Success and Title IX Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering an environment conducive to student achievement, retention, and development. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a passion for student advocacy and a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience. The Dean oversees various departments crucial to student success, including admissions, accessibility services, enrollment management, recruiting, financial aid, student success programs, retention initiatives, academic advising, and student engagement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Leadership and Strategic Planning:
    • Develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and programs aimed at enhancing student success and fostering a supportive campus culture for students
    • Provide leadership to the departments under the Dean’s purview, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and objectives.

    Admissions and Recruiting:
    • Collaborate with the admissions team to develop recruitment strategies targeting diverse student populations and ensuring equitable access to higher education.
    • Oversee the admissions process, including application review, enrollment management, and admission decision-making.
    • Develop a plan to ensure continued enrollment growth by implementing a strategic plan for recruitment and retention.

    Financial Aid:
    • Provide leadership in administering financial aid programs, ensuring timely disbursement of funds, and offering financial literacy resources to students.

    • Stay abreast of federal and state financial aid regulations, implementing policies to maintain compliance and maximize financial support for students.

    Student Success and Retention:
    • Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive student success programs, including orientation, academic support services, tutoring, mentoring, and career development.

    • Analyze data and trends related to student retention and persistence, identifying areas for improvement and implementing evidence-based interventions.

    Academic Advising:
    • Provide leadership and guidance to academic advising teams, ensuring students receive comprehensive advising services that support their educational and career goals.

    • Promote proactive advising strategies, such as degree planning, academic coaching, and intrusive advising, to enhance student success and timely degree completion.

    Student Engagement:
    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student engagement both inside and outside the classroom, including co-curricular activities, clubs, and student organizations.

    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to create opportunities for student leadership development, civic engagement, and experiential learning.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives that support underrepresented and marginalized student populations.

    Policy Compliance
    • Serve as the primary compliance officer for a number of state and federal requirements. These include Code of Conduct, Student Grievance, and Title IX oversight among other policies.

    Special Assignments

    May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



    KSA's/Required Qualifications
    • Master’s degree.
    • Experience in student affairs, admissions, or related areas within higher education.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of developing and implementing innovative student success initiatives.
    • Strong understanding of and experience in fostering an inclusive campus environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and to resolve conflict.
    • Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations governing admissions, financial aid, student services, and Title IX in higher education.
    • Commitment to the mission and values of the community college, with a passion for serving diverse student populations.
