Job Overview
The Senior Risk Management Specialist uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external resources to improve the Risk Management discipline within McDermott. The Senior Risk Management Specialist impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities.
The Project Risk & Opportunity Management Lead (PROM Lead – Senior Risk Management Specialist) will be responsible for supporting the project by maintaining the Risk & Opportunity Register. Regularly update the Risk Register to capture new risks, ensuring all identified risks are thoroughly documented, reviewed, and reassessed throughout the project lifecycle. Assign risk owners and establish a framework for tracking risk responses to ensure that mitigation efforts are successfully implemented. Continuously monitor identified risks and risk responses, updating the Risk Register and adjusting strategies as risks evolve or new risks arise. Finalize the Risk Register on a monthly basis with the Project Controls Manager and Project Director and issue for project review / action. Promote a project-wide culture of risk awareness, empowering team members to contribute actively to identifying and managing risks.
Facilitate regular risk communication with senior management, project sponsors, and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency on major risks and response effectiveness.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Senior Risk Management Specialist (Project PROM Lead) will be responsible for and maintaining the Project’s Risk & Opportunity Register (ROR).
- Has an understanding of constructability concepts, workflow processes (the how it’s built) & related interdependencies between Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction.
- Able to understand contractual requirements and implementation on the project via the Project Execution Plan.
- Facilitate Risk Workshops
- Interface with other functions or stakeholders to secure information required to maintain the Risk Register
- Identification and Categorization of Risk / Opportunities - Work with the Project Team to identify and add to the Risk Register any new Project/Event risks.
- Perform Pre-Mitigative Qualitative Assessments of Risks – Risk Register events that are carried over from the tendering phase and any newly captured Project/Event risks
- Work with the Project Team and Assign Risk Response Strategies and Action Items
- Perform Post-Mitigated Qualitative Assessments on all Risks recorded in the Risk Register
- Perform Quantitative Assessments on the Pre & Post Mitigated event risk profile, based on inputs from the Project Team.
- Monitoring & Reporting - Create and maintain PROM reports as required
- Support provision of data, materials, presentations to the Risk Steering Committee, EXCOM, Risk Committee of the Board of Directors, or any other ad hoc function and/or meeting as needed
- Adheres to McDermott's internal Project Risk & Opportunity Management processes
- Perform any other related duties as required
Essential Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related fields or seven-ten (7-10) years of experience in a similar role
- Problem-solving attitude and high level of coordination skills
- Demonstrated effectiveness in prioritizing multiple tasks, and managing efforts to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated effectiveness in working with others in a multifunctional team
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking
- Ability to understand the project scope, schedule, and its relationship potential event risks
- Ability to work as a collaborative team member as well as act as team leader
- Data Gathering and Reporting
- Work independently with limited supervision
- Effective communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken
- Computer literate on Microsoft programs: Word, Access, Power Point, Excel, Project
