Summary
The data center technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database server systems, storage and networking equipment in a data center environment. The technician ensures that these systems are operating efficiently and securely, and that any issues are resolved promptly and effectively. The technician also performs routine backups, upgrades, and physical install/decommissioning of systems and reports on their performance and status.
Responsibilities
Install, configure, and test database server systems and related hardware in a data center environment.
Monitor and maintain the availability, performance, and security of the database server systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or incidents related to the systems, and escalate as needed. Respond in a timely fashion to a worldwide development team
Perform routine backups, upgrades, and audits of the systems, and ensure compliance with policies and standards.
Perform break/fix hardware replacement. Move racks of equipment within the datacenter as needed
Assist remote development team with tasks that require physical access
Document and report on the status and performance of systems, and provide recommendations for improvement.
Coordinate and collaborate with other data center staff, vendors, and customers as required.
Qualifications
Associate degree or equivalent in computer science, information technology, or related field.
At least two years of experience as a data center technician or similar role.
Working knowledge of database systems, such as DB2, Netezza, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle is a plus
Working knowledge of data center infrastructure, such as power, cooling, cabling, and rack systems.
Working knowledge of network protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
Working knowledge of operating systems for administrative tasks such as Linux, Windows & MacOS
Working knowledge of security tools and best practices, such as firewalls, encryption, and authentication.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds of equipment.
Ability to work in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
