  • PRIMARY PURPOSE: NARA NW is seeking a Data Analyst who will work with other Data Analysts, Helpdesk IT, and others within NARA NW. The Data Analyst will need to conceptualize, design, create and implement data reports reflecting organizational program metrics. The Data Analyst will work closely with the data scientist, managers, and program leads to understand their reporting needs. The reports, tools, presentations, and analyses generated by the Data Analyst will focus on healthcare, behavioral health, social determinants of health, policy, and operations. Other mandated initiatives, ad hoc data reports for multiple stakeholders, and internal policy and program decision-making reports will also be generated by the Data Analyst. The position produces expected reports and assists with defining and implementing new EHR workflows. This position requires in-depth and specialized subject-matter expertise of medical, pharmacy, dental, eligibility and provider claim data.


    Core Competencies:

    • Reviews and analyzes health record documentation and information for accuracy and completeness; ensures information is entered in the correct place for reporting and billing.
    • Composes letters, memoranda, statistical reports, medical audits; completes other forms and documents.
    • Identifies, resolves, and corrects errors in health records; notifies appropriate staff members of discrepancies.
    • Responds to assigned tickets and tasks.
    • Maintains and updates the electronic health records system.
    • Creates and reviews audit reports; assists in compiling statistical data.
    • Account management with EHR software.
    • Basic report generation and SQL query troubleshooting.
    • Train other staff on how to use EHR software.
    • Experience with Outlook, Windows Operating System, Office applications, Power BI
    • Assist with project tasks and processes that are complex and of significant operational impact
    • Working with internal and external customers to translate and document business and operational requirements
    • Promotes system security and patient confidentiality and helps ensure compliance
    • Coordinate’s role management for users based on credentials, classification, role, and user training module (workflow) completion
    • Helps to develop and maintain system dictionaries, glossaries, user lists, and other supporting documentation for health IT systems and applications
    • Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
    • Protect protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) & 42 CFR Part 2 (Substance Abuse).
    • Attention to detail, multi-tasking skill and the ability to work independently.
    • Act professionally with a passion for assisting others and problem-solving.
    • Meet performance standards set by assigned project work/objectives and organizational policies and norms.
    • Contribute to awareness of cultural sensitivity, awareness, and competency.
    • Complete all organization required training.

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or related field.
    • Proven experience as a Data Analyst, Report Writer, or a similar role.
    • Extensive knowledge of data warehouse reporting tools and scripting.
    • Broad understanding of clinical healthcare reporting and analysis.
    • Strong SQL proficiency and other commonly used data analytical tools.
    • Experience using SharePoint and Office applications to report and summarize data in HTML or JSON formats. Ability to produce clear, meaningful information and to present that information effectively.
    • Experience in statistical analysis using statistical packages (Excel, R, SPSS, SAS).
    • Analytical skills include collection, mining, evaluation, analysis, and visualization to disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with business and technical groups.
    • Comfortable with ambiguity and willing to take principled bets on innovative technology.
