Position: Database Administrator

Reports To: Director of Data Production
Primary Function:
The incumbent is responsible for installation, upgrade and technical support of Asembia’s inventory of production and non-production databases.
Job Scope and Major Responsibilities:
- Plan and Manage installation of new instances of SQL Server as required.
- Plan and manage upgrades of existing instances of SQL Server to insure all instances are operating on supported versions of the software at all times.
- Design underlying database file structure and manage to optimize performance on an on-going basis.
- Design and implement database backup strategy.
- Design and implement a high availability database architecture including both Always-On and Read-Scale availability groups.
- Monitor database performance on an ongoing basis.
- Manage installation, configuration and upgrade of database performance monitoring software.
- Develop a deep understanding of Asembia’s business systems through participation in application design sessions and translate business requirements into physical data models as required.
- Monitor database performance on an on-going basis.
- Serve as technical advisor to Application Developers on SQL best practices and performance tuning.
- Help troubleshoot application issues related to performance, data accuracy or other symptoms that where the database my have play a part.
- When required, provide DBA support for production software releases, including executing DDL scripts, backups, and data updates.
- Communicate and reinforce organization’s technical vision among team members and other associates to promote efficient, cohesive solutions.
Performance Criteria:
This role is evaluated by the ability of Asembia’s databases to satisfactorily meet client SLA’s for performance and availability and providing a high level of support to the Application Development, Operations, and Account teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience working in the role of SQL Server DBA for a commercial enterprise.
- Extensive experience administering databases in support of large-scale, real-time applications.
- Extensive experience managing backup and recovery of multi-terabyte databases.
- Extensive experience setting up and administering SQL Server Availability groups.
- Extensive experience in database performance management.
- Deep understanding of logical and physical database design principles and best practices.
- Solid understanding of SQL Programming.
- Experience with Azure SQL and generally managing databases on Azure is a plus
- Ability to collaborate with and support a diverse team of various skill levels.
- Available to work outside of normal business hours as required.
