Dean of Business manages administrative functions of the college of business. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Business leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Business requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Business manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Business typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     GENERAL STATEMENT OF AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    The Middle School Dean provides guidance, counseling, psychological, and pupil record scheduling and discipline services.  He/she may be required to work before and/or after the regularly contracted year.

     

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

     

    The Middle School Dean is responsible to the building principal.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    1. May supervise students and/or adults as directed by the building principal.

        

    1. May be responsible for the master schedule.

     

    1. Coordinates and participates in registration of students.

     

    1. Assists with all aspects of the students services program.

     

    1. Assists high school counselors in the registration of eighth grade students.

     

    1. Initiates and implements student transfers to adjust schedules.

     

    1. Coordinates standardized testing programs.

     

    1. Screens students for special programs.

     

    1. Assists in teacher-student-parent understanding and conflict resolution.

     

    1. Helps students with personal decision-making competencies and self-acceptance.

     

    1. Shares responsibility for maintenance of student records.

     

    1. Acts as referral agent and liaison between community agencies and the school.

     

    1. Assists current and former students with educational occupational planning.

     

    1. Is responsible for the implementation of the initial steps in the disciplinary process.

     

    1. Arranges parental conferences as needed.

     

    1. Participates regularly in group and/or individual student counseling.

     

    1. Coordinates data for school and computer programming of grades and scheduling.

     

    1. Coordinates data for progress reports and behavior reports to parents.

     

    1. Counsels with parents/students regarding attendance and other school related problems, as referred by attendance clerk, teachers, parents, or administrators.

     

    1. Is responsible for the school in the absence of the principal and vice principal.

     

    1. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with co-workers, fellow employees and the public.

     

    1. Compliance with the Eight Keys to Employability.

     

    1. Abide by Teacher Standards and Practices Commission “The Ethical Educator and Professional Practices”.

     

    OTHER FUNCTIONS

     

    1. Performs any other duties as assigned by the principal.

    Education and Experience:

     

    1. Successful teaching experience at middle school level desired.
    2. Successful counseling experience desired.
    3. Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree desirable).
    4. Must hold valid Oregon Teaching License; Administrative License preferred.
    5. Continued training in classroom management skills and techniques.
