Dean of Education manages administrative functions of the college of education. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Education leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Education requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Education manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Education typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     General Information:

    The Assistant Dean for Research will develop and implement research strategy; identify and connect faculty with potential funders; support faculty members in research activities that include grants, publications, and entrepreneurial endeavors; disseminate best practices in ethical research conduct; foster collaboration within the College of Education, across the University, the Commonwealth, and world; promote faculty research achievements.

    The position will provide oversight, strategic planning, and infrastructure support in promoting research activities within the College of Education at James Madison University.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    -Serve as the liaison for the College with the Research, Economic Development, and Innovation division.
    -Serve as Ex-officio for the COE Research & Scholarship Committee.
    -Lead collaboration efforts within the College, across the University, and globally in developing potentially funded research projects.
    -Promote best practices in research studies.
    -Disseminate information within the College about human subjects' research.
    -Connect potential funders with faculty.
    -Develop and monitor infrastructures for faculty that include pre-award and post-award activities.
    -Develop and lead processes for grant development, from brainstorming to applying for and managing funded grants/contracts.
    -Oversee the internal awards process (seed grants, i.e.).
    -Facilitate professional development for faculty and staff in the area of research activities.
    -Supervise the Grants Specialist.
    -Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    -Doctoral degree in education or related field
    -Be eligible for tenure at the Associate Professor or Professor levels in one of the College's academic units
    -Experience applying for and receiving grant/contract funding
