Make a difference every day! Lawrence School seeks a passionate and experienced Dean of Students at our Broadview Heights Campus (grades K-6).

The Lower School Dean of Students reports to the Lower School Head and serves on the Lower School leadership team. This individual works to ensure the safety, integrity, and dignity of the academic, social, and emotional culture of all Lower School community programming.

JOB DUTIES:

Creating and Maintaining Culture:

• Actively monitor the climate of the school through daily visibility in hallways, classrooms, and common areas
• Regularly communicate with faculty, staff, parents, and professionals about the social and emotional needs of individual students
• Manage the Lower School code of conduct and issue appropriate disciplinary actions, up to and including recommendations to the Lower School Head for student suspension and/or expulsion
• Work with individuals or groups of students in a variety of ways, including social skills coaching, redirection of challenging behaviors, and problem solving in both the regular school year and summer programs (e.g., Lions Leap)
• Provide classroom observations and offer constructive feedback
• Continue to implement and foster the growth of a bullying prevention program and lead the development of new programs (RULER) and initiatives directed at improving the social and emotional experiences of students year round, in the Lower School
• Strive to maintain consistent alignment with the middle and high school programs

Training:

• Coordinate training of new and returning faculty members before the start of the academic year, summer programming (e.g., Lions Leap), and at regular intervals throughout the year, pertaining to assertive discipline, behavioral, and social concerns

Safety:

• Oversee and implement all safety requirements via the State of Ohio

Transportation:

• Work with transportation providers to resolve student behavioral issues

Other:

• Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences, as needed
• Attend all faculty workshops, training programs, and regular staff meetings
• Sit on Lower School Admissions Committee to advise on appropriateness of students applying to Lawrence School
• Work cooperatively with the Lower School Head to ensure smooth operation of the campus
• Attend school events such as open houses, orientation sessions, and Curriculum Events
• Represent Lawrence School at various community and professional functions
• Assume active membership in organizations that support the mission and direction of the school
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or Social Work
• Master’s degree in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, or related field preferred
• Knowledge of academic, behavioral, and social issues related to students with learning and attention differences
• Significant experience in managing student social and behavioral concerns
• Proficient in the use of technology, including MS Office Suite, email, and database programs
• Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail/accuracy, timely implementation, and quality performance
• Consistently exercises discretion and judgment
