Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Engineering requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Engineering manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Engineering typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     GENERAL SUMMARY: The Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering & Construction Technologies (SECT) reports to the Dean and provides academic leadership and support for the faculty and instructional offering in the Tulsa-based operations of OSUIT. The Assistant Dean also works collaboratively with other OSUIT and OSU-Tulsa staff members on a variety of matters related to OSUIT - Tulsa.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists the Dean with the recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and development of faculty at OSUIT - Tulsa and with institutional policies, practices, and strategic priorities.
    • Promotes and advances diversity and inclusion.
    • Fosters collegiality and positive morale.
    • Assists with the collaborative development and fulfillment of short- and long-term strategic priorities for OSUIT - Tulsa, as well as the policies, procedures and initiatives appropriate for achieving them.
    • Supports the ongoing analysis of current and emerging educational and workforce trends and the alignment of OSUIT - Tulsa’s offerings and services to them.
    • Provides ongoing operational support to OSUIT - Tulsa’s programs, services, students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders, and addresses emergent issues in accordance with the University and other pertinent policies, procedures and practices in a timely manner.
    • Supports specialized and institutional accreditation initiatives.
    • Promotes and supports academic innovation and excellence.
    • Supports the preparation and updating of School and University promotional materials and website.
    • Assists with the day-to-day monitoring and management of OSUIT – Tulsa budgets, facilities and other resources to ensure appropriate and optimum utilization.
    • Assists with the pursuit and acquisition of extramural resources.
    • Provides operational support to OSUIT - Tulsa’s student recruitment and retention efforts.
    • Assists with the development and maintenance of robust relationships with alumni, as well as industry and community representatives.
    • Maintains accurate records relative to all OSUIT - Tulsa interests.
    • Ensure safe work and learning environments.
    • Represents OSUIT – Tulsa and the University in appropriate professional and community organizations and related activities.
    • Supports the exploration of and engagement in collaborations with internal and external entities to advance OSUIT - Tulsa, OSUIT and their stakeholders.
      Serves on committees as assigned by the SECT Dean.
    • Coordinates and communicates OSUIT - Tulsa activities with Academic Affairs, Fiscal Services, Student Services, the President’s Office, Marketing & Communications, the OSU Foundation, and other units as appropriate.
    • Fulfills other responsibilities to meet the needs of OSUIT - Tulsa, SECT, and OSUIT.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Should possess the credentials necessary to qualify as a faculty member for one of the School’s programs; graduate degree(s) highly preferred. Individuals with alternate combinations of credentials and/or experience may be considered.
    • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
    • Three or more years of progressive experience in collaborative management and leadership; experience in higher education administration preferred.
    • Postsecondary teaching experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse constituencies.
    • Ability to plan, organize and fulfill complex initiatives.
    • Knowledge of and experience in working with technology.
    • Ability to research and interpret federal, state, and institutional policies.
    • Understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing higher education; comprehension of land-grant colleges and universities preferred.
    • Ability to effectively engage community and industry leaders and alumni.
    • Ability to maintain high standards of work, initiative, commitment, ethics, professional responsibility and judgment.
    • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative data analysis, budgeting and reporting.
    • Ability to work effectively with and promote diverse populations.
    • Superior interpersonal skills – including the ability to effectively recognize and resolve complex problems in a constructive manner.
    • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, exercise decorum in all interactions with stakeholders, and be able to effectively recognize and mitigate conflict.
    • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
    • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
    • Travel required.
    • Normal office and classroom work environments; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
