Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. - Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks
- Work with students to help them understand key concepts, learned in the classroom
- Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions
- Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics
- Track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation
- Provide students positive and constructive feedback
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Required Qualifications
- College tutoring experience required.
- Commitment to the mission of the community college, and to teaching and motivating community college students in ways appropriate to their diverse backgrounds and learning styles
