Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Position title: Applied Mathematics Postdoctoral Scholar
    Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum annual salary rates are made based on the individuals Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution.     Percent time: Full-time (100%)

    Anticipated start: As soon as possible after initial review of the applications. Ph.D. must be in hand at time of the initial appointment.

    Position duration: MAXIMUM DURATION OF SERVICE IN A POSTDOCTORAL TITLE: Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time; the initial appointment is for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Reappointment will be contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. The total duration of an individuals postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Under limited circumstances, an exception to this limit may be considered, not to exceed a sixth year.

    Position Description


    The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position under the direction of Assistant Professor Abhishek Halder. The postdoctoral scholar will perform interdisciplinary research in the area of online learning and control of cyber-physical systems, will pursue collaborative research publications, and will help mentor graduate students.

    We seek candidates who demonstrate strong analytical and written communication skills (evidenced by publication record in the area of control or machine learning). Applicants with the following qualifications or areas of expertise are strongly encouraged to apply: experience in working at the intersection of learning and control; research experience in multi-armed bandits or other online learning problems; expertise in stochastic control and optimization.
