Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Position Summary:

    A dean at Salpointe Catholic High School first mirrors the Carmelite values of prayer, community, and service. With all members of the faculty and staff, deans model the gospel principles in working with students. The deans report directly to the Assistant Principal for Student Services and are responsible for the general discipline and conduct of the student body.
    • In implementing disciplinary policies, reflects the attitude of the school mission in promoting a positive God-centered environment that emphasizes respect for self and others.
    • Partners with teaching faculty to support and maintain a safe learning environment where all students are valued and held accountable for behavior in a timely manner (1 hour).
    • Recognizes the parental role of primary educator and communicates with parents in a timely manner regarding an issue with student(s).
    • Is proactive in promoting a positive learning environment and communicates values of proper etiquette and behavior.
    Duties Include:
    • Consults with the Assistant Principal for Student Services on serious discipline matters, providing updates through scheduled briefings (beginning and end of week) or as needed.
    • Processes all disciplinary infractions reported by the teachers through myPointe in a timely manner.
    • Maintains records of all disciplinary infractions and student records
    • Assigns appropriate consequences as outlined in school policy.
    • Schedules, assigns and manages detention
    • Meets with students regarding corrective measures for behavior.
    • Communicates with parents directly on all serious disciplinary infractions, including those involving immediate suspension from school.
    • Communicates with parents and students on all assigned consequences resulting from an accumulation of minor infractions.
    • In consultation with the Assistant Principal for Students Services, assigns and maintains records of all students on disciplinary probation.
    • Contacts and arranges for conferences with parents/guardians and/or students on all issues requiring such action
    • Monitors attendance records, both absences and tardies, and assigns consequences as necessary
    • Participates in conferences with students, teachers, parents/guardians in matters of discipline and attendance
    • Present for all lunches.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Developmental Responsibilities:
    • Works in concert with administrators and teachers on the evaluation of the school discipline program and assists with the adjustment and/or formulation of school policy.
    • Assists with school communication of discipline and attendance policies from year to year(updating of Parent/Student Handbook, website info)
    • Assists teachers on ways of guiding students toward self-discipline by providing guidance and/or support information.
    • Is a visible presence on campus (walking halls, dropping into classrooms)


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Male - This position is gender-specific; job includes the candidate monitoring bathrooms periodically throughout the day and to have conversations with students about appropriate dress, behavior
    • Masters or substantial coursework in counseling or related social science fields with 2 years related experience
    • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations
    • Ability to handle families/students with grace and diplomacy
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and discern among competing priorities
    • Positive, creative, solution oriented temperament
    • A positive faith life, able to apply this to the tasks of the job.
    • Working knowledge of student database software
    • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills, along with crisis management
    • Availability to work after school hours and special events as needed.
