Dean of Nursing manages administrative functions of the college of nursing. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Nursing leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Nursing requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires certification as a registered nurse. The Dean of Nursing manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. About the Position:
Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Director of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of Interprofessional Partnerships is the chief academic and administrative leader for the School of Nursing and serves as a key member of the leadership team of the College of Public Health. The Director and Associate Dean serves as a high visibility leader and spokesperson on the importance of nurses (entry- through advanced-level) to ensure the health and well-being of the residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia and nationwide. The opportunities presented by the School’s proximity to the nation’s capital, national funding agencies, and a well-established health industry position the Director and Associate Dean will serve as a national spokesperson on innovations in nursing and public health. The Director and Associate Dean champions an expansive definition of public health that ensures nursing is an integral part of the public health system, inclusive of health promotion, disease prevention, and optimization of healthcare service delivery across the lifespan. The Director and Associate Dean serves in an elevated leadership role at a leading public research University that has invested in building the first and only College of Public Health in the Commonwealth of Virginia, which is one of only a handful of Schools/Colleges of Public Health that feature nursing as a mission-critical asset.
