POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dean of Students will work closely with Middle School Administration, staff, students, and parents to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate. The Dean’s primary responsibilities will focus on supporting the growth, wellness, and health of secondary students. The Dean will assist administration in the handling of discipline referrals, ensure school safety, assist in prevention of school violence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build healthy relationships between and among students and staff.
- Reduce, prevent, and ameliorate harmful student behaviors while also holding individuals accountable for their actions.
- Assist with the direction of or planning for PBIS programming.
- Will work closely with OJRMS counseling department on student matters pertaining to attendance, child welfare, and guidance.
- Promotes beneficial school, parent, and community relationships by means of parent conferences and reports concerning students.
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
- Inspire students to hold themselves to high standards of academics and character.
- Meet with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators: to discuss specific children's progress, to determine resource needs and priorities for the child(ren), and to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops as needed in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Assist secondary administration in planning for the safe operation of the school.
- Develop and deliver professional development (as needed) as related to job and as requested by the building principal.
- Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
- Assist building administration with other duties (as needed) such as hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.

Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters degree preferred.
- Pennsylvania Secondary Teaching Certification; Pennsylvania Department of Education Principal Certification preferred.
- Experience with extracurricular activities.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in oral and written communications; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to job duties
- Well organized with good time management skills.
- Computer literate and competent with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Submission of PA School Personnel Health form.
- Current Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

190 days; 7.5 hours per day
- Salary and benefits according to the negotiated agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Roberts Education Association.
