Job Description:
To assist with the performance of high-quality Interventional Radiology exams in compliance with company policies, procedures and standards.
- Properly position patient, place identification markers on images and acquire prescribed images; insert cassettes into CR reader. Verify images match the proper description, check and scan paperwork into patient’s exam record. Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of radiographic equipment and supplies specific to interventional radiology. Accurately determine the examination to be performed through communication with the physician, team RN’s, and manager. Call patient back for exam, explain procedure to patient and/or family member in easy to understand laypersons terms and obtain written consent for procedure. If required checks creatinine levels through the i-stat system and verifies GFR on-line. Prints and scans blood result into RIS. Position patients; immobilize as necessary. Set up sterile trays with appropriate items for procedure; add additional items as needed; maintain sterile field at all times during procedure. Assist radiologist during procedure to include handling of instruments, operating and monitoring radiographic equipment, alerting physician to changes in patient condition. Scrub to assist passage of catheters and guide wires when requested by physicians.
- Obtain, assess, and forward images to PACs for quality assurance including complete anatomy coverage for procedure ordered, patient motion or artifact presence, review images with radiologist for pathology and perform additional imaging if necessary. Perform cytology preparation and follow-up by preparing sterile trays for biopsies, prepping slides for viewing, preparing specimens for shipping, completing appropriate order forms for pathologist; arrange transportation of specimens to proper location maintain appropriate inventory levels of biopsy supplies.
- Clean exam room at the end of each procedure as required. Properly dispose of infectious waste materials and sharps. Maintain a par inventory of catheters, balloons, stents, guide wires, and all other special supplies as required by the IR labs. Restock all patient care areas as needed. Stock and maintain inventory in store room and records supplies soon to expire. Order inventory items as needed to maintain functional par level. Enters charges for each exam on the inventory supply sheet to be forwarded to billing.
- Schedules patient procedures into RIS from referring physician’s offices when necessary. Performs all required duties with minimal or no supervision. Performs any other IR related duties as directed by department manager. As needed, covers in IR for Kindred Hospital and helps to train other IR staff. Takes IR call for Saturday as directed.
Education, Experience, and Licensure:
Specify length and type of formal education required and/or equivalent work experience necessary for satisfactory work performance. List licensure requirements:
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
- Must know the Windows Operating System.
- Must have CPR Certification
- Must be a graduate of an approved school of radiologic technology.
- Must be registry eligible or registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Must be licensed by the state of New Mexico as a Certified Radiologic Technologist.
