Under the direction of the Vice President, General Counsel (VP, GC), the Deputy General Counsel provides accurate, timely and effective legal advice and consultation to senior leadership and Chugach Alaska Corporation (CAC) departments across varying areas of focus in legal, risk and compliance areas, including policies, investments, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, records, trainings, investigations, and litigation. Primarily focused on supporting Chugach’s corporate services departments and the Business Enterprises team.
PREFERRED
Knowledge Of: Principles and practices of civil and administrative law applicable to corporate, government and commercial business operations; state, federal and local laws affecting company operations; conflict of interest principles; understanding of judicial proceedings at the administrative, trial and appellate levels; principles and practice of legal research and regulatory issues related to Alaska Native Corporation operations; supervisory techniques applicable to a professional law office or legal department; and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability To: Demonstrate unquestioned ethics and integrity; work collaboratively with leadership; study, learn and apply knowledge of company operations at a level required to render valid and reliable legal advice; analyze, evaluate and organize facts, evidence and precedent, and communicate such materials both orally, and in clear, written form; analyze and evaluate a wide variety of legal documents and instruments; draft legal instruments such as resolutions, contracts and other legal documents; direct, motivate, train and supervise the work of assigned staff serving as a change agent when necessary; communicate both orally and in writing to varying levels of the organization; establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with leadership and the Board of Directors, a diverse variety of staff, the legal community, and key customers and vendors; express viewpoints while maintaining an openness to others’ opinions.
