Founded in 2013, Engenious Design is a growing team of 60 people who design, prototype, build and test medical devices and other high technology systems for our clients. We don’t make or sell anything with our name on it, but we work on behalf of our customers who market and sell the systems we design. We are a blend of Creative Design mixed with Engineering – Industrial Designers, Graphic Designers, Mechanical/Electrical/Embedded Software Engineers. We design, prototype and test electro-mechanical systems in a collaborative team that’s based in the Kansas City metro area.
Our prototype model shop and short-run production areas are well-outfitted, clean, organized and air-conditioned. Our model shop creates photo-worthy appearance models (like movie props) and functional prototypes to support R&D work that makes the world better through the systems we design. Our production team produces limited quantity, high-quality final assembly and test of medical devices and other technology systems in an electronics lab environment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The hands-on Production Manager oversees all aspects of in-house manufacturing and prototype model shop builds for medical devices and other technology systems. The scope of work supervised includes building appearance models (nonfunctional props), fabricating components, subassemblies, fixtures, prototypes, short run pilot production, and finished device production (short run). Production requires leading and directly-managing day-to-day activities of highly-skilled small teams. The manager ensures a safe, clean, organized and controlled environment, working closely with in-house design engineers and external suppliers and clients.
The manager and team collaborates with industrial designers, design engineers, test engineers, and others. Above all, the manager ensures safety of all who work in the shop and guests too. They oversee all work happening in the shop and production areas including everyone working in these areas. The manager ensures that the shop creates and delivers top-quality electromechanical prototypes and components of all kinds with a focus on enclosures, mechanisms, and pneumatics. They manage inventory, material, equipment, people and work for on-schedule and within-budget execution of all shop requests. The manager maintains an organized, clean and efficient shop environment and culture. The manager plans and budgets for new tools and expanded capabilities to build a world class model shop. And works with a team to estimate work for internal stakeholders and external clients, then manage execution to estimates.
