DESKTOP SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager Information Services
Job Summary: This employee is responsible for installation and desktop support of Fund laptops and workstations. They perform troubleshooting and diagnosis of technical issues, assess needs, and resolve technical issues for end users directly or via phone and remote connection. This employee will have access to sensitive and confidential data; therefore, confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Essential Functions:
- Setup Fund Laptops and workstations in a networked environment.
- Assists users with Microsoft desktop applications and other desktop software.
- Assists with purchasing and installation of computer hardware and software.
- Troubleshoots hardware and software issues as necessary.
- Maintains software licensing, paperwork, and inventory of the West Virginia Housing Development Fund’s (the “Fund”) hardware and peripherals.
- Troubleshoots network printer issues.
- Coordinates printer installation, repair, and supplies with contracted vendor.
- Provides individual or group training to Fund employees on Desktop Operating Systems and desktop software including Windows 10 and Microsoft Office applications.
- Provide backup to other Information Services staff as needed.
- Use specialized utilities to maintain and update laptops and workstations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift computer equipment without assistance (e.g., laptop computers, desktop computers, file servers, computer monitors, printers, etc.) weighing up to 25 lbs. and with assistance, bulky computer equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Range of motion that allows the individual to work in tight or awkward space (e.g., under and around office equipment, etc.).
The employee in this position may be required to sit at a desk for long periods of time.
Required Education/Experience: High School Graduate or GED equivalent with one to three years of experience working in a computer network environment with multiple network operating systems and applications. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and experience providing end user support of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Education/Experience: Associate degree in Computer Science or related field.
Computer Requirements:
- Familiarity using network administration utilities.
- Proficient providing end user technical support via phone and in person.
- Proficient installing Windows 10 or higher and applications in a networked environment.
- Proficient troubleshooting printing issues in a networked environment
- Familiarity using remote software installation utilities
