Development Director manages an organization's fundraising strategies, campaigns, capital development initiatives, and operations to support the overall organizational development and revenue objectives. Implements donor stewardship programs to identify, develop, retain, and nurture a portfolio of individual and institutional donors. Being a Development Director works to develop potential corporate or governmental partnerships and grant funding opportunities. Creates collaborative coordination between staff and internal stakeholders to plan events and communications to increase donor engagement.   • The Olympic Regional Authority (Olympic Authority) manages and operates a variety of venues located in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains in New York consisting of: three alpine skiing venues – Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, Gore Mountain in North Creek, and Belleayre Mountain in Highmount; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mount Van Hoevenberg in the Town of North Elba, a Nordic cross country skiing and biathlon venue; the Olympic Jumping Complex in the Town of North Elba; and the Olympic Oval and Olympic Center in the Village of Lake Placid including three indoor ice skating rinks, the Olympic Museum, and the Lake Placid Conference Center.

    Overview

    The Marketing Director is a leadership role that works closely with the VP of Sales & Revenue and Director of Communications and oversees the Olympic Authority corporate marketing, Alpine venue marketing, and sales support initiatives.

    This role collaborates with Sales and Marketing team stakeholders to define brand and venue strategy, identify goals and objectives, craft and implement marketing plans, and ensure the marketing department and venue marketing leads are supported in pursuit of all sales and marketing objectives.

    The role ensures support for Alpine venue business development, ticket/season pass sales, media planning, demand generation, and communications initiatives.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Corp Marketing Department

    • Supervise marketing department and staff
    • Serve to collaborate on, define, and implement marketing plans
    • Oversee brand marketing project management
    • Work with creative team to ensure creative and brand strategy are consistent
    • Ensure Marketing Team is working effectively with Event and Legacy venues
    • Provide support and training to sales teams
    • Provide support and materials to sponsorship teams
    • Oversee budgeting, tracking, reporting and req management
    • Collaborate with executive leadership on marketing initiatives that support the goals of the organization.
    • Ensure marketing functional leads timely follow through on all marketing tactics to ensure achievement of all venue and department objectives.
    • Direct and support all Alpine venue and corporate marketing plans and production of marketing assets as needed.
    • Nurture relationships with external resources and external marketing partners.
    • Work effectively with all vendors, subcontractors, and partners
    • Ensure that corporate and Alpine venue websites are current and optimized to amplify and achieve marketing plan goals.
    • Ensure that corporate and Alpine venue social media channels (Olympic Authority FB, IG, Twitter and LinkedIn), are current and content is optimized to amplify and achieve marketing plan goals.
    • Ensure marketing teams monitor and manage customer and community comments and feedback to ensure proper follow-through with appropriate response.
    • Ensure corporate marketing team follows through on all event and Legacy venue marketing needs as defined by event and venue project managers and marketing plans.
    • Monitor and address all marketing software and techstack needs of the marketing and creative departments.
    • Work with digital marketing, web, and sales managers to develop performance reports and presentations on marketing and sales activities as requested.
    • Recommend ways to enhance the organization’s image.
    • Support corporate marketing team with timely input, feedback, and reviews.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Alpine

    • Ensure identification of alpine venue consumer needs and future trends
    • Identify and report on qualitative and quantitative analysis of product market, competitors, and end users
    • Help to define and track marketing plans with each mountain and collectively for SKI3
    • Co-develop and support budget with each mountain, and SKI3 campaigns
    • Build marketing programs and campaigns with Gore, Belleayre and Whiteface marketing managers, collaborate cross-functionally, and report on marketing metrics.
    • Ensure the tactics, including go-to-market launches, advertising, email campaigns, events, and social media, are coordinated with corporate marketing.
    • Participate in content production and editing, ideation, and public relations.
    • Meet customers and attend events to support product marketing activities, manage appropriate participation at sales and marketing events (ex. ski shows)
    • Monitor profitability in comparison to the targets set and manage corrective actions
    • Ensure the development and maintenance of the technical and promotional product documentation
    • Work with alpine venue Customer Service / Guest Relations to monitor feedback and survey data, follow through initiatives, and new techniques to support guests

    Skills and Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Resort or Tourism Management, Business, Hospitality, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in resort or tourism management preferably in alpine ski environments.
    • Minimum 2 years of marketing plan development and supervisor management experience
    • 2 years with ecommerce and ticket systems
    • Experience working with matrixed organizations, particularly in sports or winter recreation.

    Preferred, but not required:

    • Familiarity with the technical aspects of ski area operations, including sound, lighting, and stage setup.
    • Writing, editing, and communications skills
    • P & L experience
    • Business model development experience

    Salary Range and Benefits

    This position is classified as a Grade 29 on the Olympic Authority’s Management Confidential Salary Schedule which has a minimum salary of $100,076 and a maximum salary of $150,114 per year. The hiring range for this specific position is $105,000 - $115,000 per year. Final offer will be within the hiring range and will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

    The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (paid parental, sick, vacation, and personal time); paid holidays; health, dental, and vision insurances; long term disability and supplemental life insurance at preferred rates; participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems; and optional participation in NYS Deferred Compensation.
