Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Position Summary
The Education Specialist, or Licensed Dietitian, assesses and makes recommendations to meet the nutritional needs of patients, provides nutritional counseling and serves as a member of the patient care team. In addition to planning, designing, coordinating and evaluating educational programs in the St. Joseph's/Candler Health System, in disease management programs and in the community, to support the mission, vision, strategic direction and operational needs of the St. Joseph's/Candler Health System.
Education
● Licensed Dietitian or Bachelors in Nursing degree - Required
Experience
● 2-3 Years clinical experience - Required
● One year experience working with a diabetic or special patient population.
License & Certification
● Professional License with State of Practice - Required
● Registration with Commission on Dietetic Registration - Required
● Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist with the American Association of Diabetes Educators or a National Certification in Special Populations is preferred within 12 months of hire date.
