Diet Aide - North Oaks Retirement Community
North Oaks, a premier senior living community is seeking a Diet Aide-Part-Time (approximately 24 hours per week) to assist our residents in the Health Center. The ideal candidate is flexible and is able to work a combination of shifts that may include 7am-3:30pm, 11am-7:30pm, and 3pm-7:30pm.
Working in accordance with established policies, procedures, and specific instructions, the diet aide is responsible for courteous and efficient Health Center food service.
Essential Duties:
1. Serves resident meals in the health center in accordance with individual therapeutic diets.
2. Ensures accurate record keeping and food tally procedures.
3. Sets up tables in the health center dining room and breaks down same after meal.
4. Maintains established standards of sanitation in kitchen and health center.
5. Transfer hot and cold foods to and from the health center.
6. Transport all required non-food items to and from the health center.
7. Maintains station equipment and work area in safe and sanitary condition.
Other Duties:
1. Maintains good relationships with residents.
2. Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
3. Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
4. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Qualifications:
1. Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
2. Ability to understand measurements and conversions.
3. Previous experience in nursing home food service preferred.
4. Ability to plan and organize work, set-up trays and plates in accordance with diet orders and interpret specifications and standards.
5. Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, supervisor, and peers. Requires empathy for the elderly.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Works indoors; must be able to stand/walk for 100% of the workday. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Must be able to push and pull tray/bus/transport carts weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and balance frequently throughout the workday. May be exposed to extreme temperatures from the ovens and freezers. Must be able to see, hear, and speak. May be exposed to industrial cleaning chemicals, communicable diseases including the HIV and Hepatitis B virus, and offensive odors.
