Dietitian, Sr. reviews physicians diagnosis and designs and implements therapeutic nutritional care plans for patients utilizing general dietetic standards and regulations. Monitors and documents patient progress and consults with physicians as needed. Being a Dietitian, Sr. educates and provides guidance to staff, patients, and families regarding diet and food plans. Administers and advises food service operations to ensure menus comply with prescribed nutritional plans. Additionally, Dietitian, Sr. may supervise less experienced dieticians. Requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Dietitian, Sr. work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     SUMMARY:   The primary purpose of the Dietitian is to help promote healthy eating habits to prevent and treat illness through supervision of food preparation and service, dietary modifications, and education. Provide sound advice to patients on healthy eating habits and evaluate dietary treatments of diseases. Provide an extremely reliable and unbiased source of information for the entire medical team, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and pharmacists. Develop dietary plans to meet the nutritional requirements of individual patients according to their medical charts. 

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Evaluate the health and diet needs of patients
    • Calculate patient nutritional requirements
    • Analyze nutritional content of food
    • Educate other healthcare professionals about food and nutrition
    • Conduct dietary, nutritional, and epidemiological research
    • Monitors and records patients’ eating patterns 
    • Interact with the Food Service Director to ensure that every meal is made in accordance with the nutritional guidelines
    • Document the dietary component of resident’s care plans. 
    • Review and revise each resident’s progress toward care plan goals. 
    • Follow the dietary component of resident’s assessments and care plans. 
    • Complete the assigned MDS section(s) in a timely manner. 
    • Follow Residents’ Rights polices at all times. 
    • Assume Quality Assurance duties as assigned. 
    • Perform other related duties as directed by the Administrator.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

    • Degree in nutritional services or relevant professional experience required.
    • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
    • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition & enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
    • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing food practices.
    • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
    • Plan diets and menus for review by the consultant.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
    • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
    • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
    • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
