Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. A Librarian I is responsible for the application of the full scope of basic professional library knowledge and techniques. Employees perform the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this entry-level classification, including application of fundamental library science principles and practices. Responsibilities may include one or more of the following: developing and presenting adult, teen, and children’s programming; outreach, social media, and digital literacy; and other community building services. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and accepted library practices and procedures. This class performs related duties as required.
Depending on assignment, supervision may be received from a Librarian III or Branch Coordinator, who reviews work through conferences, meetings, reports, and results achieved. Night and weekend work is required. This class is FLSA exempt-professional. (Part-time employees in this class are FLSA non-exempt).
