Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The award-winning Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is currently hiring for a Youth Services Librarian in Collection Development.

     

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    Under direct supervision of the Youth Collection Development Librarian, the Youth Services Librarian in Collection Development assists staff District-wide in their selection of young people’s and teen materials and the development of those collections, with an emphasis on grade levels K thru 8, to meet community needs 

     

    Description of hours and wages:

    The pay range for this position is $70,725 to $94,778 annually. Pay typically begins towards the entry of the pay range, and employees are eligible for annual merit and COLA  increases per District policy. 

     

    This is a  full-time (40 hours per week), FLSA exempt position.

     

    *A Relocation Reimbursement of up to $2,500 is available to assist with relocation of over 100 miles.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Works with the Young People’s Collection Development Librarian to strengthen teen and young people’s material collection with an emphasis on grade levels K thru 8.

    2. Under supervision, evaluates materials in all formats for teen and young people’s collections, and makes recommendations for purchase.

    3. Monitors the creation of book lists within area of emphasis as needed by YPL staff.

    4. Ensures desired materials within area of emphasis are added to the collection as expeditiously as possible working closely with the Young People’s Collection Development Librarian.

    5. Provides collection development guidance for YPL staff.

    6. Assists YPL professional staff in developing the knowledge and skills needed in their collection development work.

    7. Interprets and explains Library District materials policies and procedures where appropriate.

    8. Under supervision, develops strong working relationships with District staff, community members and with those in the book industry.

    9. Keeps abreast of new materials and issues that impact on collection development and recommends policies and procedures for the Young People’s collection.

    10. Utilizes personal computers, laptops, DVDs, InFocus, automated library systems, the Internet, e-mail, on-line tools and resources, and MS Office Suite products.

    11. Operates office equipment including, but not limited to: copy machine, telephone, and fax machine.

    12. Attends and participates in professional association meetings and seminars.

    13. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

    Training and Experience:

    Master’s Degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association. One (1) year experience as a professional librarian, including recent experience in young people’s literature and collection development required.

     

    License, Certificate, or Requirements:

    Possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada Driver’s License at the time of hire.

     

    Physical Requirements:

    Essential and marginal functions may require standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5 - 10 pounds), occasional moderate lifting (11 - 20 pounds); frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing; minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of office equipment; utilizing a keyboard and sitting, or standing for extended periods of time. Tasks require sound perception, visual perception, and oral communications ability.
