Description
As a Design Engineer at Freeman Boatworks LLC, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing composite boat structures and components. This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the creation of cutting-edge marine products.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conceptual Design: Work closely with the product development team to conceptualize innovative boat designs that meet customer requirements and market demands. Translate conceptual ideas into detailed design concepts and specifications.
2. CAD Modeling: Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) to create 3D models and drawings of composite boat structures, hulls, decks, and components. Ensure that designs comply with engineering principles, regulatory requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
3. Structural Analysis: Conduct structural analysis and simulation studies to evaluate the performance, strength, and stiffness of composite boat structures under various loading conditions. Identify areas for optimization and improvement to enhance structural integrity and performance.
4. Material Selection: Evaluate and select composite materials, resins, reinforcements, and core materials for specific applications. Consider factors such as weight, strength, stiffness, durability, and cost-effectiveness in material selection decisions.
5. Prototyping and Testing: Collaborate with the prototyping and testing teams to fabricate prototypes and conduct testing to validate design concepts and verify performance. Analyze test results and iterate on designs as needed to meet performance targets.
6. Documentation: Prepare comprehensive documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports, to communicate design intent and facilitate the manufacturing process. Ensure that all design documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with company standards.
7. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, procurement, quality assurance, and marketing, to ensure seamless integration of design activities with overall product development and production processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, naval architecture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in design engineering, preferably in the marine industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or CATIA, and familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., Finite Element Analysis).
- Strong understanding of composite materials technology, including laminate theory, fiber-reinforced composites, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with structural analysis and simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Creative thinking and a passion for innovation in design and engineering.
