As a Health Information Management Administrator 1, you would manage the day-to-day operations of a medical records program; plan, implement, and maintain systems for acquiring and preserving individuals medical records; supervise and train subordinate staff in facility medical records and health information management departments; and participate in the maintenance and updates of computer applications for medical records information.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provide coverage of supervision of the HIM department in the absence of the HIMA3
· Run and report the daily census as needed
· Become a TABS coordinator (will train)
· Process and complete requests for information
· Maintain, sort, and organize all documents/charts/electronic records that come into the department from (five) county offices.
· Sort, organize, assemble, label, and file all records of excess discharge and death from Outpatient, SOIRA’s, Family Care, and Campus.
· Electronic Health Record (EHR) tasks such as record deletions and corrections, portal access, and querying the EHR for documentation requests.
· Read through and retrieve critical documentation from historical files to aid in physician/nurse/clinician requests for previous medical/medication history and for continued care and treatment.
· Gather and assemble records for court hearings, transport records to court, and when requested, produce in court documentation for the hearing. At the end of the hearing, transport records back to Surmount and return all gathered records to appropriate departments.
· Ability to travel, as needed, to various locations throughout New York state for court hearings, audits, and special projects.
· Complete special projects and audits as needed/assigned.
· Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
1. Must be a current New York State employee eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, with one year of permanent competitive service as a Health Information Management Technician 2, SG-15. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades,
OR
2. Be reachable on the current New York State Civil Service eligible list (#20259) for this title.
Minimum qualifications for the continuous recruitment exam title, Health Information Management Administrator 1 are as follows:
A. Candidates must currently be certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), OR
B. Be currently certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) AND have two years of full-time professional (post RHIT) health information management experience.*
*Professional health information management experience must include: reviewing medical records with physicians, coding and indexing diseases and operative procedures, compiling statistics required for hospital service analysis, and responsibility for all technical aspects of the implementation of a facility health information management program.
