Distribution Management System - SCADA Consultant Utilities (Remote)
Job Description:
This position provides application support for DMS (Distribution Management System), which provides tools to operate the electrical grid. This team supports the DMS application across all four regions, so applicants could be located in Charlotte, Raleigh, Cincinnati, or St Petersburg. Support of the DMS ensures it is available 24X7 and operating properly to meet the needs of the operators in controlling critical electrical infrastructure.
This is the fourth level of the IT Application Analyst classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work including giving work assignments, and provide leadership to others in application areas of specialization, with minimal supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work. Incumbents function in lead technical roles providing guidance to others and overseeing a portfolio of applications. They are also expected to have advanced skills and have the ability to work independently.
Roles & Responsibilities :
Responsibilities
• Works closely with internal and external product owners to prioritize unplanned work and roadmaps for future enhancements.
• Coaches and mentors team members. Helps guide individual team member growth through intentional learning paths.
• Monitors production operation of and maintain the availability of products in the DMS portfolio (DMS, SCADA, Self-Healing, VMS, FMS).
• Participates in and manages 24x7 on call support with the team. Responds to production emergencies (application down, slow, etc.) within the appropriate Service Level Agreement (SLA). Coordinates response for critical and high Incidents, Major Incidents (MIs), major events. Assists users, answers user questions and assists users with defining business processes as necessary.
• Lead and participate in evening and weekend technical efforts as required
• Leads troubleshooting for the most complex issues and leads others to implement fixes to systems and applications that require significant freedom of action and sound judgment. Demonstrates the ability to visualize long-term results and asset impacts on a system-wide basis.
• Communicates appropriate information including downtimes, change management, status, issues, defects, etc. to users, IT management at the highest levels and any other necessary audience including their own division. Is able to present information on technically complex subjects in an understandable manner in both oral and written form. Recognizes appropriate times to provide this communication.
• Leads by example while displaying confidence and a proper level of assertiveness when needed as well as demonstrating maturity in approach and ability to effectively handle stress and frustration.
• Utilizes agile methodologies to develop and maintain applications. Works on projects as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and/or Anchor. Provide knowledge and expertise gained from past experience.
• Coordinates and performs routine maintenance for emergency patches, service packs and upgrades (software) for DMS portfolio products. Ensures all documentation is kept up to date or created as needed.
• Utilizes appropriate Human Performance tools effectively in the course of activities, especially testing and implementation activities.
• Provides recommendations and assists in decision making at a portfolio level.
• Researches and analyzes new technology
• Works across regions with other leads to develop one strategy for all jurisdictions when creating solutions.
• Manage team members day to day work assignments.
• Set and enforce standards for team documentation
Required/Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor‘s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related discipline
• In addition to required degree, seven (7) years minimum related work experience
• In lieu of Bachelor’s degree(s) AND seven (7) years minimum related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 10 year(s) related work experience
Desired Qualifications
• In addition to desired degree, 10 years or more of related work experience
• Previous experience with GE SCADA and DMS systems, Self-Healing, VMS or FMS
• Previous management experience
• Previous technical lead experience
• Demonstrated success in leadership of others
• Demonstrated success in leadership of a portfolio of applications
• Experience working in a support or sustainment capacity
