Position Description
The Seed Division Manager’s primary role is to manage sales activities ensuring that the company’s objectives and goals are implemented according to policy. The Seed Division Manager will oversee seed operations in Montana, Washington and Idaho.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the propagation, processing, distribution and organization of seed sales for CGI in the states of Washington, Idaho and Montana.
- Works with Grain and Pulse Division Vice Presidents to establish goals and direction for the Seed Business in Washington, Idaho and Montana.
- Establish, build and maintain relationships with key industry and strategic community partners such as seed growers, farmers, seed and agronomy companies.
- Work with Pulse and Grain Divisions to develop, propagate and promote Columbia Grain’s preferred varieties to meet end user customer demand.
- Provide seed sales direction to breeding companies consistent with the division and company’s plans and sales objectives.
- Works with Elevator Managers to develop seed sales and profit objectives by division and location.
- Lead and develop grower meetings in collaboration with Columbia Grain’s Pulse and Grain management team.
- Works with Pulse and Grain Divisions to create competitive advantages for the company utilizing its global and domestic trade, logistic network as well as its relationship with Helen Agri Services and other suppliers.
- Collaborate with Montana Specialty Mills on seed program in support of crushing facility.
- Forecast a year in advance a seed variety production plan for marketable quantities of preferred varieties of grain and pulse seed.
- Research, analyze and monitor financial, technological and demographic factors to capitalize on market opportunities and minimize effects of competitive activity.
- Maintains compliance and reporting with area Crop Improvements regulations and Federal Seed Act regulations.
- Cultivate and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or Agriculture related program.
- Previous experience managing grower and seed programs, purchasing programs and other marketing programs preferred.
- Previous experience building strong relationships with suppliers preferred.
- Proven managerial, motivational and leadership qualities.
- Ability to self-direct, prioritize, set goals, evaluate and review progress, create objectives and timeliness.
- Travel may be required to include market areas in other states.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Basic knowledge of working with a computer and mechanical skills.
- Good work ethic (team environment, both safe and quality), efficient and willingness to perform all required work with good attendance.
Physical Requirements necessary to perform this job
- Must be able to move freely throughout the operations plant to include walking on elevated platforms, standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crawling
- Exposure to extreme climate temperatures, humidity and noise
- Must be able to work in high places and confined spaces
- Occasionally required to taste and smell
- Required to wear protective equipment to include hard hat, safety glasses, protective footwear, gloves, coveralls, and other PPE as required.
