Job Overview
The Controller is responsible for financial functions that support Youth First’s mission. The primary purpose of this position is to manage the organization’s financial accounting and forecasting, grant and contractual agreements, and other accounting needs. Responsibilities
a. Conduct and/or oversee all accounting activities, including payroll, deposits, bank and investment accounts, restricted and unrestricted funds, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
b. Conduct and/or oversee reconciliation of bank accounts monthly and investment accounts quarterly.
c. Allocate and reconcile restricted funds
d. Invoice grants and contracts
e. Ensure completion of monthly financial statements and Fiscal Year-End financial statements within the appropriate timeline.
f. Manage investments and other assets in accordance with the policies of the organization.
g. Develop annual budget and manage expenses accordingly.
h. Prepare budgets and financial reports for grants, contracts and other proposals.
i. Prepare financial forecasts and assist with strategic planning.
j. Maintain and update financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable, payroll and expense reports.
k. Prepare journal entries, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
l. Establish and maintain business relationships with accounting vendor, financial institutions, auditor, insurance agents, and other vendors.
m. Provide staff support for Finance Committee and Board Treasurer, including planning and notification of meetings and preparing agendas, minutes, reports, and goals.
n. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements related to accounting, taxes, and charitable status.
o. Prepare and maintain records for audits and respond to the auditor’s needs.
p. Follow and review internal controls, policies and procedures and recommend revisions as needed.
q. Direct or assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned.
r. Assist with fundraising activities and special events.
s. Represent Youth First at community events as needed.
t. Participate in Audit & Risk, Finance, and Strategic Planning meetings.
u. Advise Director of Finance, VP of Strategy & Operations and President & CEO.
v. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Master’s Degree in Business Administration and/or CPA preferred or relevant experience.
· Three years of experience in accounting. Fund accounting experience a plus.
· Experience managing grants a plus.
· Demonstrated leadership skills
