Controller Opportunity in Rochester, NY Area
Expected Salary Range $110,000 – 150,000 Annually
The Opportunity
We are searching for an experienced Controller to lead all aspects of financial operations, to include accounting, treasury, and tax functions, while collaborating with the executive team on key business operations. As the sole finance executive, this position requires someone who can independently manage all accounting and financial aspects of the business while demonstrating strong leadership in collaborating with department heads and influencing organization-wide decisions. As a key partner and direct report of the CEO, this position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong accounting and leadership skills who want to make a difference throughout an organization.

For more than 35 years, Regal Products has been a leading manufacturer and distributor of firearm safety devices, suicide prevention materials, and outdoor sporting goods accessories. Marketed under the FSDC by Regal, Caretaker by Regal, START by Regal, and SecureMe by Regal brands as well as customer brands, the products that we produce are sold around the world and are protecting lives daily.
Regal Products is a private equity portfolio company that was acquired from the founding owner in 2022.
The Work Environment
This position is located in the Regal Products corporate office in Victor, NY but will regularly interface with remote employees and Board members located throughout the US. The office environment is casual. Our customers are located throughout the US and in 15 countries around the world. Listed amongst our customers are major firearm manufacturers, outdoor sporting goods distributors/retailers, government entities, healthcare organizations, and non-profits. Our supply chain is global.
Quickbooks is used as the primary accounting software. Microsoft 365 is used for general email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Key Areas of Responsibility
As a member of the organization’s executive leadership, the Controller will perform the following key duties:
· Oversee all accounting operations, including financial reporting, cash management, balance sheet, management, and loan compliance.
· Manage relationships with and oversight of outsourced service providers, including tax preparers, auditors, payroll processors, and 401(k) administrators.
· Ensure compliance with company policies and US GAAP, including monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and providing technical accounting guidance.
· Develop and monitor KPIs for both financial and operation performance with particular focus on inventory management, margin performance, and working capital efficiency.
· Manage comprehensive inventory accounting, including standard costing, variance analysis, and pricing analytics to support strategic decision-making.
· Prepare and execute monthly financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes, including P&L forecasting and variance analysis.
· Deliver timely reports to the executive team and Board of Directors.
· Manage international trade aspects of finance, including customs compliance, duties, freight costs analysis, and relationships with freight forwarders.
· Oversee relationships with factors and monitor accounts receivable aging and collections.
· Collaborate with the executive team to enhance financial management capabilities through IT systems and internal reporting.
· Supervise tax reporting requirements (Federal, State, Local), including income, property, sales and use, and payroll taxes.
· Manage the Company’s insurance programs and vendor relationships.
· Coordinate internal and external audits and implement resulting recommendations.
· Actively participate with the executive team and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
· Currently residing in the Rochester, NY area (position requires 4 days per week at our Victor, NY location)
· Undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance or related discipline.
· Minimum of 5 years of combined Public Accounting and/or Private Industry Accounting experience.
· Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
· Demonstrated experience with inventory management and cost accounting.
· Strong work ethic and adaptability.
· High integrity and excellent professional references.
· Excellent communication and presentation skills.
· Proficiency with Quickbooks and Microsoft office products.
Preferred Qualifications
· CPA certification
· Experience working in a private equity backed company, with understanding of PE reporting requirements.
· Experience managing treasury and lender compliance.
· Experience with internal manufacturing and import/export operations.
· Experience with accounting system implementation and integration.
· Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, and complex financial modeling.
