Acara Solutions is seeking a Design & Drafting Technician for our client in Canonsburg, PA.

Here's what you'd do:

• Design/drafting with SolidWorks.
• Performs detailed design and documentation of mechanical components or subsystems.
• Manages own design sub-tasks in support of the duties within the project assigned.
• Contributes to the design and documentation of semi-complex mechanical components as an active project team member.
• Produces two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) CAD work product output for fabrication and assembly.
• Generates mechanical designs considering material requirements and functional characteristics.
• Generates and checks semi-complex to complex drawings.
• Performs tolerance analysis studies as required.
• Creates new or revises existing drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and bills of material for our products.
• Determines to scale; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning; prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; prepares complete production detail drawings; contributes design modifications to improve quality of the product or facilitates manufacturing operations.
• Checks drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standard engineering drafting practices and standards.
• Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation.
• Creates Engineering Change Notices detailing the changes to released designs, updates drawings/models/BOMs as needed, and routes change requests through the approval process.
• Creates and revises documentation detailing assembly or testing.
• May work with system management, including file maintenance, backup, and storage.
• Writes technical documents, test procedures, installation procedures, and process documents.
• Researches to make recommendations to management for new vendors, products, or technical specifications.
• Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
• Researches and interfaces with vendors on products that meet job design requirements.
• Uses the Engineering Change database to implement changes in a design document to cut costs where needed and record changes required to improve a product.
• Works as an individual technical contributor or as part of the development team.
• Provide work leadership to drafters / may manage a small team of drafters.
• Open to new ideas, can serve as a champion for change, and acts to support change when directed by management.
• Assists engineers in designing and developing complex and detailed layouts of printed circuit boards.
• Participates in developing designs of new or modified high-density printed circuit boards.
• May define design standards and configurations.
• Works from preliminary schematics, part lists, and basic description of the board function, configuration, and arrangement as defined by engineering.
• Instructs the drafter in the completion of drawings and specifications.

• Associate's Degree
• Minimum of 7 years experience in the use of current strategic CAD tools (SolidWorks needed)

• Proficient knowledge of material requirements, fabrication techniques, and manufacturability concepts
• Proficient knowledge of design principles and techniques including computer aided design (CAD)
• Proficient knowledge of the strategic CAD and file management tools
• Proficient knowledge of design documentation standards (e.g ASME Y14.5M, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
• Proficient knowledge of mechanical stress; structural, thermal and tolerance analysis
• Possesses proficient problem solving and collaborative skills
• Demonstrates initiative, applies personal talent to practical solutions
• Works within the trade space defined (cost / schedule / technology)
• Demonstrates the ability to weigh risks and make progress in the face of uncertainty
• Willingly takes on problems and commits to solutions
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Manages time to ensure an assignment's completion
