    Position: Sand Springs Public Schools Early Learning Center Teacher (Daycare)

     

    Location: Early Childhood Center 

    Address

    Days and Hours: 182 days/ 8 hours daily/will follow SSPS academic calendar for days on and off work

     

    Supervisor: Site Principal Morgan Douglas and Director of Early Learning Center Sarah Fanelli

     

    Reports to:  Director of Sand Springs Public Schools Early Learning Center and ECEC Building Principal

     

    Supervises: N/A

     

    Qualifications for a Substitute Teacher:

    Must be at least 18 years old and have an HS diploma or GED or be in the process of receiving a GED for a period not to exceed 12 months, pass a yearly National Criminal Background Check, and meet all other requirements set by the Department of Human Services, by the position. 

     

    Teachers.  

    The program employs individuals meeting the position-specific requirements in (1) through (3) of this subsection.

     

    1. Position-specific qualifications.  

    Teacher:

     Are at least 18 years of age; and

     Have at least: a high school diploma, GED, or Licensing approved equivalent; or completed 10th grade and are in the process of obtaining a GED for a period not to exceed 12 months from employment.

     

    2. Position-specific responsibilities.  

    Teachers:

    have the primary responsibility for the direct care of children; and

    participate in:

    lesson plan development and implementation;

    classroom arrangement;

    parent communication and family engagement; and

    program development and evaluation.

     

    3.  Position-specific professional development. 

    Teachers obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification requirements, perOAC 340:110-3-284 

    Teachers assuming the position:

    on or after November 1, 2016, get the certification within three months; or

    before November 1, 2016, and get the certificate before November 1, 2017.

     

    (Will compensate for certifications)

     

    Job Goal:  Providing care and supervision for infants through preschool children throughout the day.

    Following the laws and guidelines by DHS Regulations for a licensed daycare facility. 

     

    Classification: Nonexempt

     

    Evaluation: Annually by Supervising Teacher/Director and Site Principal

     

    Physical Demands:

    Regular Requirements:

    Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 75 pounds.

     

    Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 75 pounds

     

    Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

     

    Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Note - these duties vary based on individual student needs and individualized education plans.

    Typical duties may include:

     

    • Accompanies students during meals and assists students with getting and eating meals and cleaning up after meals.

    • Monitors students during nap times.

    • Cleans and maintains an efficient work area.

    • Assists with instruction, errands, and copies related to an assigned student(s).

    • Alerts the Director of concerns related to the student.

    • Maintains confidentiality of student information.

    • Complies with all federal, state, and local laws, board policies, and procedures.

    • Utilizes professional behavior in all school-related interactions.

    • Assists the Director in monitoring students' progress 

    • Assists the Director in observing, recording, and charting behavior.

    • Assists the Director with crisis problems and behavior management.

    • Supervises children in the hallway, lunchroom, classroom, and playground.

    • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.

    • Responsible for assisting the Master Teacher with implementing policies and procedures, regulations, and daily operations guidelines, including developmentally appropriate practices.

    • Assist the Director in reviewing each child's progress and developing written plans to promote each child's growth and development.

    • Maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the children's optimal growth and development 

    • Observe and maintain records on each child to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth.

    • Establish a positive relationship with each child's parent and/or guardian and share information about the child's day while attending the childcare.

    • Conduct and/or assist the Director during staff/parent meetings.

    • Assist teacher in fully implementing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and inclusion of children with disabilities and special needs, as needed.

    • Responsible for assisting Center Director and Director in implementing parent involvement activities.

    • Maintain dignity, empowerment, and respect with all children, parents, callers, staff, and volunteers.

    • Act as a positive role model.

    • Perform other duties as required or assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Is capable of thinking and acting quickly in a crisis.

    • Communicates clearly and effectively.

    • Demonstrates ability to think creatively.

    • Demonstrates knowledge of school or center policies, expectations, and requirements.

    • Exhibits ability to remain calm, professional, and understanding when dealing with frustrated parents or misbehaved children.

    • Possesses mental and physical stamina required to work with small children.

    • Demonstrates knowledge of proper first aid and emergency response procedures

    • Performs all other tasks as the supervisor may assign.

     

    *Additional certification may be required.
