    We have offices in New York, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Gurgaon.  This is a remote opportunity, based in the United States with the ability to go into any of our offices or work from home.

    About the role:

    The Healthy by Reader’s Digest (print and digital) is seeking an editor who can help us develop and optimize health, wellness, and lifestyle content for TheHealthy.com and its section within Reader’s Digest print magazine. Reporting to the Senior Editor, this key role on our enthusiastic, hard-working team seeks a skillful blend of writing and editing talent, SEO research, and organized project management to guide stories and projects from conception through publication and performance reporting. 

    You’ll be responsible for using data insights to develop topics and clearly assign stories to our writers, scheduling stories under the direction of the Senior Editor, and regularly communicating with writers to ensure stories meet their scheduled go-live dates. You will also write and edit digital content with SEO best practices and brand initiatives in mind, manage CMS production and daily newsletter production, support the development of high-visibility tentpole projects and advertising campaigns, and work in collaboration with a multitude of cross-functional departments to lead the development of messaging and creative to drive traffic and engagement. 

    In addition to working within the digital team, you’ll collaborate with writers and print editors for Reader’s Digest. This is an exciting opportunity to have an instrumental hand in editorial strategy and development for an individual who is passionate about of-the-moment health & wellness topics, general lifestyle content, and working in mainstream media for a long-trusted brand.

    About you: 

    You are a sharp writer and editor with a positive attitude and collaborative spirit, along with specialized experience in SEO research and assigning. You have data to illustrate how your content performs, and an instinct for ideating and shaping content to engage a mass audience. You are passionate about health as a genre, and a true team player who possesses strong organization skills and thrives on deadlines while balancing creativity, project management, and an upbeat attitude.

    With a fierce eye for detail and efficiency, you’ll help The Healthy’s fast-paced digital team meet our production and traffic goals. You are excited about reaching a large national audience and creating content that both appeals to our loyal readers and attracts new fans.

    Your Day-to-Day:

    • Play a key part in editorial strategy by guiding and tracking SEO-focused assignments, performing SEO research, and working with a Senior Editor to lead team members through brainstorms, outlines, pitching and content creation, ensuring project deadlines are met
    • Write, edit, proofread and refresh content with an eye for the latest search-relevant best practices
    • Field writers’ pitches and prioritize and schedule assignments
    • Support daily newsletter production and promote content via other channels as assigned
    • Lead social media production and promotion using design and social scheduling tools
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (partnerships, sales and marketing, etc.) to lead the development of creative assets and campaigns
    • Balance multiple projects simultaneously
    • Tackle assignments with daily direction from Senior Editor
    • Collaboratively complete other duties as assigned

    You Have:

    • 5 years of experience writing and/or editing digital content
    • 2 years focused on SEO research using a tool such as SEMRush to assign and structure new content and updates to evergreen or seasonal content, and experience implementing SEO best practices while maintaining editorial quality
    • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, media, marketing or related field
    • Strong understanding of the digital landscape, particularly SEO strategy and performance metrics
    • Familiarity with WordPress, basic HTML, and Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet-style programs
    • Skills in organizing and managing multiple projects at the same time while thinking creatively, setting priorities, and changing course as needed
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of an evolving team
    • Familiarity with, and interest in, the health and wellness lifestyle space
