  • The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is accepting applications for a full-time Museum Education Specialist (Early Learning) to manage NOMA's signature Mini Masters program, a collaborative arts integration program for pre-kindergarten students; create, administer, and evaluate a suite of early childhood programs featuring the museum's encyclopedic collection and renowned Besthoff Sculpture Garden; collaborate with other museum educators to develop museum learning materials, supervise the coordination of school visits to the museum and collaborate on planning and operations of NOMA Summer Camp.


    The Museum Education Specialist (Early Learning) manages NOMA's signature Mini Masters program; creates, administers, and evaluates a suite of early childhood programs; collaborates with other museum educators to develop museum learning materials; supervises the coordination of school visits to the museum and collaborates on planning and operations of NOMA Summer Camp.

    Mini Masters is a collaborative arts integration program for pre-kindergarten students featuring works of art from the New Orleans Museum of Art. Mini Masters encourages students to develop higher-order thinking skills, make observations, and engage in conversations through museum visits and classroom activities. The program helps build the capacity of early childhood educators through professional development and lesson modeling that develops discussion routines, techniques for teaching the elements of art, and skills for creating art in the classroom.


    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    ? Manage the Mini Masters and Mini Masters at the Library programs

    ? Coordination of multi-school and museum visits, program coordinating the annual "Mini Masters Showcase" at NOMA

    ? Serves both internally and externally as the early learning consultant and advocate both internally and externally.

    ? Supervises museum educators, teaching artists, and contract educators as needed for Mini Masters program implementation.

    ? Develops written content and other materials to support early learning gallery and digital interpretation initiatives at NOMA.

    ? Create and teach PK-6-focused workshops, in-services, institutes, and educator events.

    ? Administer development, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of PK-6-focused school-based programs.

    ? Collaborate with community partners, teaching artists, and other department staff to design curriculum and deliver equitable school-based programs.

    ? Maintain and cultivate new educational partnerships with local and regional schools.

    ? Collaborate with other museum educators to create gallery learning materials, train docents, and teach artists and visitor engagement staff on program content for PK-6 audiences.

    ? Remain current with Early Learning research and best practices in museums.

    ? Represent NOMA to area agencies and institutions to establish and nurture early learning and school program collaborations.

    ? Collaborate on the planning and operations of NOMA Summer Camp sessions relevant to PK-6 audiences.

    ? Participate in meetings with external partners and institutions on behalf of NOMA as needed, serve on professional panels, and conduct professional development workshops for external partners.

    ? Assist in the development and monitoring of program budgets.

    ? Assist in grant writing and reporting to maintain approved PK-6 learning and gallery learning programs.

    ? Disseminate learning and best practices developed throughout NOMA's PK-6 school-based initiatives at conferences, seminars, and other appropriate forums.

    ? Assist the Development department with tracking, writing, and budgeting for fundraising purposes and reporting.


    MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    ? A Master of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, Development, Visual Arts, Studio Art, or a closely related career field

    ? Three years of demonstrable teaching experience PK-6 or servicing equivalent audiences in a museum setting in a primary school, museum, or other informal education setting

    ? Experience working with various learning models

    ? Demonstrable understanding of industry best practices

    ? Experience leading students in lesson-based activities


    SKILLS AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

    ? Excellent writing and communication skills

    ? Highly organized, punctual, and able to determine and shift priorities.

    ? Ability to discern children's voices

    ? Ability to work with NOMA's diverse audiences

    ? Strong organizational skills

    ? Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

    ? Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills working directly with children and families

    ? Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite

    ? Knowledge of evaluation techniques.

    ? Demonstrated interest in and understanding of studio art practices and education.

    ? Possess the ability to manage a budget and produce statistical reports.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    ? Constant movement while conducting museum and classroom lessons

    ? Positions self in proximity to students to deliver lessons

    ? Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds)

    ? Valid driver's license, transportation, and appropriate liability insurance
